Thoughts on Gratitude

celebrate the every day, inspiration, jewelry, the meaning behind the jewelry By August 27, 2021 3 Comments

Life is so so hard.

And life is so so good.

There is darkness and light.

For so long I wanted to create warm, sunny days and avoid the dark heavy clouds. But I can’t. We can’t. We need to feel it all.

I’ve been trying to focus on gratitude lately—not as a means to avoid feeling pain, but as a means to avoid bitterness. There’s so much to be grateful for. So much beauty in the midst of the everyday crazy stuff of life. Dark clouds and warm sunshine work together to create vibrant, blooming, breathtaking flowers.

This bracelet holds my heart. I wear my Thin Sterling Cuff every day as a reminder to be grateful for all the love I have in my life!

Like how grateful I am for my family and the love we have for each other. That’s what makes personalized jewelry so sweet, it lets me carry the names of the ones in my heart. I’m grateful for these little everyday reminders of what really matters.

What’re you grateful for?

What David Taught Me

celebrate the every day, david, family, inspiration, jewelry, motherhood, the meaning behind the jewelry By July 15, 2021 No Comments

One of the biggest things David has taught me is to be present in this moment. He lives in the NOW. He doesn’t worry about the future or the past. He truly lives in the moment.

It’s a gift to watch and learn from him. So many times, I’m overwhelmed with worry and I look around and find I have everything I need in this moment. Right now, everything is fine. It’s all okay. I’m trying to stay in the moment today.

Also soaking up his silly smiles and hugs!

It’s hard, it’s heavy, life is a lot but I promise you, there is beauty in this moment.

I designed this piece for David and everyone in the CdLS community. It’s a meaningful mother and child necklace that really captures the beauty of David’s life. I love it so much!

breathing in the beauty

an everyday moment, celebrate the every day, choose joy, finding beauty By June 18, 2021 3 Comments

There is so much beauty around us—this doesn’t minimize the pain and the mess of how hard it is to be human, but it brings BALANCE, hope and relief.

It’s easy for me to see the hard stuff—to feel overwhelmed, scared and frustrated—but I’m practicing taking time to notice the beauty, to breathe it in, to feel grateful for these gifts. Gifts like colorful flowers, snuggles, and time with my boys!

It’s strange how pain and peace often go together. Exhaustion makes way for deep rest. Sadness created space for joy. In my experience as a human, there’s no such thing as perfect—but there’s so much GOOD. You deserve good and beautiful things!

And friends, don’t forget to take the time to smell the flowers and notice the beauty around you. My sweet flower jewelry reminds you to do just that, like my Be You Wildflower Necklace and Birth Flower Necklace. Aren’t they gorgeous?

Hello New Wheels!

celebrate the every day, david, hello monday By July 1, 2018 7 Comments

Hello friends! Big news–David got new wheels–his first wheelchair. We’ve been using a BOB stroller for the last couple years and it’s been great, but David has grown a lot and he needed something bigger.

How about some hellos for a new week?

Hello feeling grateful for David’s new wheelchair. It’s going to be wonderful for traveling. We’re going to England in a few weeks and it will be helpful with the airport and bigger excursions.

Hello feeling frustrated. I wish David could walk more {or maybe I should say cooperate more?} It’s a pain to have to lug the wheelchair around. Also we’re still fighting with insurance to get them to help us pay for it.

Hello content. David seems to love his new wheelchair {which is also an adapted stroller}

Hello new ice cream shop On Higuera in San Luis Obispo. I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Nutella. YUM!

Hello to this sweet guy. I love him. ❤

Hello pineapple for David and Matthias. They both loved it.

Hello monster behind David who keeps sneaking up on him. David loved it.

Hello reading this book. I just started it and I’m hoping it’s not too sad.

Hello watching this show. I live with boys {and I love it}.

Hello announcement. Did you hear?

Hello brand new week with beauty to be found. I’m on the lookout! Join me? What are you saying hello to this week?

hello backyard living

celebrate the every day, hello monday By April 10, 2017 4 Comments

We’ve been wanting to make our backyard more livable and more comfortable. For some reason, in past summers we don’t spend a lot of time out there–but it’s a beautiful space and we’re determined to change that! I’ve been looking at our backyard as an extension of our home and trying to add furniture we’ll be drawn to. I want to make it a place where we naturally spend time.

It’s coming together and I’m ready for warmer weather. We’ve had so many chilly and rainy days–but soon I hope we’ll be heading outside to sip coffee in the sunshine and eating dinner outside as the sun sets.

It’s a brand new week, how about some hellos?

Hello finding a sturdy and beautiful table within our budget {I waited until it went on sale.} I searched high and low and really feel in love with this one! {I’m linking sources if you’d like to know where I found various pieces.}

Hello adding softer touches like a faux fur throw and mixing in some patterns with pillows.

Hello baskets and succulents.

Hello pups who are happy to sit still for a photo.

Hello comfortable outdoor sofa. We’re hoping to find a fire pit to add to this space.

Hello making music and relaxing outdoors.

Hello plants who seem happy to be getting lots of rain.

Hello chairs that are so comfortable I never want to get up.

Hello hanging plants and macrame.

Hello white string lights that add ambiance in the evenings. I put them on a timer so they come on and turn off automatically.

Hello loving the longer days and light that stretches late in the evening.

Hello keeping the couch covered in rainy weather and trying to make sure all the dog poop is picked up!

Hello sitting outside and sketching and designing and feeling like my head might explode from too many ideas.

Hello feeling grateful for time to sit outside and read with Matthias on homeschool days.

Hello feeling a pull to slow down, breathe more deeply and soak up the moment.

Hello finding beauty in the here and now. There hard stuff but there is also so much good.
Best of all there is grace for this moment.

Hello to you. It’s a brand new week with beauty to be found. Join me? What are you saying hello to this week?

adored ring

celebrate the every day By August 18, 2016 37 Comments

I’m turning forty-two years old. It’s feels different than I expected. I’ve changed so much this last year–and I’m ready to welcome this next year with open arms.

I’m learning to listen to my heart even though sometimes she speaks in a quiet whisper.
I’m practicing speaking my mind–even when I make waves.
I’m beginning to understand the importance of self-care (and that I can do it without guilt!)
In big, amazing ways I’m seeing with a fresh perspective that my three boys whom I adore, also adore me. And I’m beginning to believe in a new, deeper way that I am worthy of love and adoration.

At forty-two I’m learning how to simply be me in new and powerful ways. It feels humbling and empowering.

Today, on my birthday, I’m slipping on the adored ring as a reminder that I am loved. The X and the O represent the beautiful, imperfect, enduring love that surrounds me. And that is definitely something to celebrate. Thank you for being an important part of my journey–I’m thankful for this community!

big deal with being twin sisters {birthday celebration party}

celebrate the every day, san luis obispo, shops i love By August 19, 2015 10 Comments

Last weekend I got away with my twin sis, and my two younger sisters who are also twin for a sister weekend. All of our birthdays are in August and we’ve had this tradition since college.

How insane is that?!

We rented a luxury cabin {kind of like a tiny house} from Flying Flags resort in Buellton. It was adorable! We ate so much good food and talked and talked and laughed and cried and talk some more. I brought matching pajama bottoms for all of us because we’re nerdy like that! It was some much needed time away to rest and have fun. And of course I have lots of pics to share with you! At the end of the post I have links for our favorite spots in Buellton, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos.

50 years is a crazy, amazing thing {all the details}

celebrate the every day, family By August 6, 2015 4 Comments

When we were in Lake Arrowhead last week, all the kids planned a 50th dinner celebration for my parents. We split up all the tasks and it came together beautifully. The dinner was delicious {I had nothing to do with food prep!} and the decorations were so fun {I helped with the fabric bunting and centerpieces}. We had a toast {Martinelli’s sparkling apple juice} and a talent show put on by the kids. My younger sister created this video of photos through the years. Each guest took a succulent favor home with them. I’m sure we’ll remember this night for a long time. I took lots of pics to share with you–take a look!

For my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary { photobooth}

celebrate the every day By July 30, 2015 3 Comments

For my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary we had a big dinner with lots of pretty details and a photobooth. It was such a fun evening. I have lots of pics to share. Today I’m starting with the photobooth pics. I pulled each couple and family outside to take capture the moment. I draped torn fabric and ribbon for the backdrop–but with sunlight kind of blew it out. That’s okay–it made for a bright background.

I brought letterpress blocks from Dayspring and they really broke the ice for taking pics of people. L O V E seemed appropriate for a 50th anniversary. Ready to see our photobooth pics?! My parents are in this first pic {along with old friends–Dave was my Junior High pastor!}

a sweet valentine’s breakfast

celebrate the every day, family By February 6, 2015 6 Comments

I planned a fun Valentine’s breakfast for my sweethearts. We had to celebrate a little early because I’ll be in the Dominican Republic on Valentine’s day. I took lots of pics for you–plus our favorite {heart-shaped} pancake recipe is below. Yum!

I kept the table super simple but fun. I used things we already had around the house–but it feels special.

Real dishes, placemats and fresh flowers is fancy for us! We should do this more often, though. It’s so fun and hardly any extra work!

I taped construction paper hearts to twine and hung them from the ceiling.

I keep paper straws on hand and they always add whimsy to the table.

Homemade, high protein pancakes are a staple for us. We probably have them at least three times a week. Here’s the recipe:

For each person, you’ll need…
2 eggs, 1/2C whole oats, 1/4C cottage cheese, dash of cinnamon, 1/2t vanilla
Put all ingredients in blender and blend at high speed until smooth. Add a little milk to thin, if necessary.

For heart-shaped pancakes, Take about 1/3 of the batter, thin with milk and put into a squeeze bottle. I found this one in the cake decorating section at Michaels.

Squeeze and outline of a heart onto hot pan.

Fill in with batter. Add chocolate chips, if necessary. And it’s always necessary.

And you end up with a heart-shaped pancake. I’ve gotten better at these as I’ve practiced a bit. So fun!

A cake topper from our shop is so cute on a stack of pancakes!

And of course, exchanging hand-written valentine’s makes it that much sweeter!

Do you have anything special planned for Valentine’s Day this year?
