avoid the walls, there’s gum everywhere

san luis obispo, what I'm wearing By November 20, 2015 2 Comments

I am overjoyed! It’s finally cold! Well, cold by California standards. It’s been scarf and boot weather. I wore flats the day we took these pics and my feet were cold. After so many hot months, it’s wonderful to have some chilly weather–even some rain. We’ve turned on the fireplace a few times. Hooray for a chill in the air.

With our shop downtown now, there are lots of fun places to shoot pics. Around the corner from us is bubble gum alley. It’s completely disgusting {as you can see}. It’s definitely something to see and of course, leave your mark {or your chewed up gum}.

at the mission, san luis obispo

san luis obispo, what I'm wearing By October 21, 2015 9 Comments

Now that we’re downtown, there are so many beautiful places to take pictures. The mission is just a couple blocks from our shop. Just one little problem {that I may have mentioned before} I feel like a complete nerd taking pics of what I’m wearing. But we did it and I lived. Hooray!

This gorgeous kimono was sent to me from Fancy Free shop and it’s flowy and lovely. Everything else is super basic and easy–but the kimono steals the show. fancy free san luis obispo lisa leonard-01 fancy free san luis obispo lisa leonard-02 fancy free san luis obispo lisa leonard-03 fancy free san luis obispo lisa leonard-04 fancy free san luis obispo lisa leonard-05

It’s still a functioning Catholic church and Steve and I attended a workshop there a couple weeks ago. The gardens are also beautiful. If you pass through town, it’s worth a walk through.

Our new space on Chorro Street in downtown San Luis Obispo has a large open space downstairs and a loft upstairs. The floors downstairs are concrete and upstairs is hardwood. And the brick. We are in our new space on Chorro in downtown San Luis Obispo and unpacking boxes and getting things running. Moving is exhausting! Our new space is such a different rhythm–I love ir, and I’m still adjusting.. I’m parking in a new place, arranging my desk differently, and finding new inspiration. Once we get settle into the space, we’ll begin to put together our retail store. We imagine it will take a few months to get everything together. I can’t wait to make it happen–but it’s going to take time.

Directly across the street from our shop is a boba tea house, called Sweetie Cup.
It’s my new addiction. It’s Monday-how about some hellos for a new week?

kayaking as a family

family, san luis obispo By September 10, 2015 6 Comments

One of the things I wanted to try this summer was kayaking. A couple of years ago, some friends of ours took Matthias and David–and they had so much fun! So we figured we should be able to make it work.

I researched Morro Bay kayaking and Kayak Horizons had excellent reviews. We loved them and we will definitely use them next time we go {which I hope is soon!}

Matthias was a little nervous but he did great!

I love all the colors against the blue sky and Morro rock in the background.

They gave us each a life vest. I love that silly face Matthias is making–what a ham.

Can you see that smile on David’s face?

David and Steve used a single kayak, Matthias and I used a double. We wanted to keep David close by–and the single worked great. After a bit we ended up switching and I took the single with David and Matthias and Steve took the double.

Matthias did a fabulous job paddling. He told me I was being too bossy, though!

We pulled the kayaks up the sand bank and played for a bit. Matthias named this bit of land ‘Barnacle Island’.

All four of us. I loved sharing this adventure together.

David loved playing in the sand and he got it everywhere.

There were lots of sea lions hanging out on this dock.

We paddling around lots of boats and up and down the bay. It was a beautiful day. Afterwards, we got lunch at Blue Sky Bistro overlooking the water. It was such a fun day!

Have you tried kayaking? I’d love to hear about your experience.

hiking madonna mountain

family, san luis obispo By September 3, 2015 2 Comments

Last weekend we tried a new hike–Madonna Mountain. It ends at a huge ‘M’ on the side of the mountain. The way up is a bit steep but definitely manageable. The landscape was dry {we’re in a severe drought} but breath-taking.

When Matthias was little we told him the ‘M’ on the side of the mountain stood for Matthias. So it was fun to hike there and see it up close. He struck an epic pose near the ‘M’–check it out below.

David loves to be in the pack and soaking up the fresh air.

The dry grass against the blue sky was beautiful.

How did I get so lucky to call these boys ‘mine’?

This hike had lots of cacti–different from other hikes we’ve done.

All smiles–I love it!

After the hike we got cinnamon rolls. So it was pretty much perfect!

We’re on the search for more good hikes. I want to try a hike in Avila Beach that ends at a lighthouse. It sounds amazing!

sister birthday 2015

celebrate the every day, san luis obispo, shops i love By August 19, 2015 10 Comments

Last weekend I got away with my twin sis, and my two younger sisters who are also twin for a sister weekend. All of our birthdays are in August and we’ve had this tradition since college.
How insane is that?!

We rented a luxury cabin {kind of like a tiny house} from Flying Flags resort in Buellton. It was adorable! We ate so much good food and talked and talked and laughed and cried and talk some more. I brought matching pajama bottoms for all of us because we’re nerdy like that! It was some much needed time away to rest and have fun. And of course I have lots of pics to share with you! At the end of the post I have links for our favorite spots in Buellton, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos.

hello whale watching in avila beach

family, hello monday, san luis obispo By July 13, 2015 2 Comments

We’ve had humpback whales off Avila Beach for weeks. We took a couple evening to walk along the ocean and look for them–and we say lots of backs and tales and spouts, but no jumping. So many of our friends had seen them jumping up out of the water to feed. We went back for lunch at Avila Beach and spent some time watching for them in the early afternoon and we finally saw a few pop their heads out of the water. It was amazing! So fun to whale watch from the shore.

It’s Monday and we’re greeting a new week. We’ve been busy with summer fun and work craziness. I’m not sure we’re ready to jump into another week but ready or not, here we go!

***Hello Monday is where I greet the new week with an open heart and a fresh perspective. It’s a new beginning–and there’s so much to be thankful for! Join me by leaving your own hellos in the comments section or linking up a hello monday post there!***

Hello to feeling afraid. Matthias was worried about the stability of the pier. There were so many people out there whale watching. A couple days later, they closed the pier to make sure it was structurally sound. So maybe his fears were well founded!
