hello whale watching in avila beach

July 13th | family, hello monday, san luis obispo

We’ve had humpback whales off Avila Beach for weeks. We took a couple evening to walk along the ocean and look for them–and we say lots of backs and tales and spouts, but no jumping. So many of our friends had seen them jumping up out of the water to feed. We went back for lunch at Avila Beach and spent some time watching for them in the early afternoon and we finally saw a few pop their heads out of the water. It was amazing! So fun to whale watch from the shore.

It’s Monday and we’re greeting a new week. We’ve been busy with summer fun and work craziness. I’m not sure we’re ready to jump into another week but ready or not, here we go!

***Hello Monday is where I greet the new week with an open heart and a fresh perspective. It’s a new beginning–and there’s so much to be thankful for! Join me by leaving your own hellos in the comments section or linking up a hello monday post there!***

Hello to feeling afraid. Matthias was worried about the stability of the pier. There were so many people out there whale watching. A couple days later, they closed the pier to make sure it was structurally sound. So maybe his fears were well founded!

folly home, carpinteria, CA

July 9th | san luis obispo, shops i love

A couple weeks ago, Chrissie and I stumbled on the SWEETEST little shop in Carpinteria {just south of Santa Barbara} called Folly. It’s full of vintage finds, paintings, pottery, textiles and light. So much inspiration. Take a look…

hello cousins in carpinteria

June 29th | adventures, hello monday, san luis obispo

Hello Monday! We are in the thick of summer fun and business craziness. The two seem to go hand in hand–and we’re doing our best to roll with it. Last week the boys and I met up with my twin sis and her twin daughters to kick off summer with some swimming, good food and hotel silliness. We had so much fun! How about some hellos?

Hello sunscreen! Sometimes putting on sunscreen feels like a part time job!

Hello swimming and sunshine. David loved the pool–it was nice and warm. And of course the other kids swam for hours.

Hello email and meetings between trips to the beach and the ice cream shop. Sometimes it flows and sometimes I feel pulled and frustrated.

Hello camping. Which means hello dirt and sand and roasting marshmallows.

Hello time with friends. That’s the best part of summer, I think!

Hello s’mores and cinnamon rolls and eating waaay too much sugar.

Hello to YOU! It’s a brand new week with beauty waiting to be found. What are you saying hello to this week?

hiking the bluffs montana de oro

May 27th | adventures, family, san luis obispo

We’ve been hiking a lot lately and it’s been so fun! One of the easier hikes we’ve done is off the beaten path and absolutely breath-taking. It’s land owned by PG&E so you have to enter by walking past a gate and sign into the ranger station. The views are staggering and the landscape is easy to navigate. Check out these pics.

Maybe we should have a gathering in San Luis Obispo and I’ll take you to my favorite restaurants, show you some beautiful hikes and of course we could do a little thrifting too. Wouldn’t that be fun?

hiking bishop’s peak, san luis obispo

May 8th | adventures, san luis obispo

Last weekend we hiked Bishop’s Peak off Foothill in San Luis Obispo. It was harder than I thought! It’s do-able, we just took our time. Steve carried David in the backpack. At the end, we all had a huge feeling of accomplishment!

Going down was a little scarier than coming up. So good for us to stretch ourselves and try new things.

It’s Friday and we are heading home to the boys. I absolutely cannot wait to see them. What are you weekend plans?

left field, san luis obispo

February 3rd | decorating, san luis obispo, shops i love

This brand new shop here in San Luis Obispo, Left Field, combines some of my favorite things–succulents, baskets, colorful rugs, rough stones, rusty metal, textured shells and lots of light. The result is magical. Today I’ve got lots of photos to share. I hope they inspire you!

Left Field is on Monterey, right across the street from Ruby Rose and just down from Splash Cafe.

Want to read an interview with the owner? Click here.

Browsing a couple amazing shops and clam chowder, hmmm. Sounds like the makings of a perfect afternoon, don’t you think?!

Montana de Oro

November 20th | adventures, san luis obispo

Last week, Steve was in the DR and friends came to stay and keep me company. We went to Montana de Oro and played in the sand and caves a bit. It’s so beautiful there. So peaceful–and good for my soul. And oh my goodness, pics of my boys from years ago at Montana de Oro. So much love.

As you can see I spent most of my time hunting for heart shaped rocks–and it paid off big time!

Where are you finding beauty today?

hello carpinteria

November 17th | hello monday, san luis obispo

I snuck away on Friday and got some much needed sister time with Chrissie. It involved lots of talking, good food and browsing through used books {I left with quite a pile!}. It’s a new week and a fresh start. How about some hellos?!

Hello reading, reading and more reading. I am always on the hunt for a good book. I love trading with friends, browsing Barnes & Noble and of course a good used book store.

Hello leaving with a pile of books–about 12 for $20. Awesome.

Hello COLOR! Hello healthy. Hello tasty!

Hello pomegranates. They remind me of my grandma.

Hello Rincon Brewery–a new restaurant. Delicious!

Hello California sky and tree. Someone told me recently that palm trees aren’t beautiful. This didn’t make sense to me. To me, they are California beauty.

Hello F U N. Hello light up signs, decor with color and random items that bring beauty. Whimsy is one of my favorite Carpinteria shops!

Hello sister, hello heart friend.

Hello new shop on Linden in Carpinteria called Bon Fortune. You guys–so many pretty papers, decor and inspiration. More on this soon.

huckleberry market {love}

November 4th | inspiration, san luis obispo

Hey there! I have inspiration to share today! We’ve got a new floral + gift shop here in San Luis Obispo and it’s nothing short of lovely. It’s full of texture, light and color–so that means it’s full of my favorite things! Take a look…

They’ve taken over Ruby Rose’s old space and made it fantastically new.

Succulents make my heart sing!

It’s such a light-filled space.

Wouldn’t these library cards make adorable gift tags?

Paper, ribbon and scissors–what else do you need?

The shop is owned by Karen and Carla {that’s Karen above} and it’s beautiful. If you live near San Luis Obispo, or pass through, you must stop in! You can follow Huckleberry Market on Facebook and Instagram. They also do creative gatherings. So fun!

What’s inspiring you today?

local love, ruby rose

September 26th | inspiration, san luis obispo

Hi friends! How about some inspiration for your Friday? You know I love Ruby Rose. Well, the recently moved to a new location on Monterey Street. I knew it would be gorgeous but it seriously knocked my socks off! So much light, texture and beauty. If you are in the area or passing through you MUST stop and take it all in. Plus it’s right by Splash Cafe so you can stop in and get some yummy clam chowder for lunch. Sounds like a perfect day to me!

Can you see how they created the shape of the USA in the plaster wall? I LOVE this!

I heart Ruby Rose.

Tell me something that’s inspiring you today!
