what i wore {my go to basics}

Hey friends! I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

Lately it seems I’m wearing this fur vest and these booties almost every day. This week I was thinking I should come up with a fresh, new outfit to share with you–but honestly, this is what I’m wearing–so there you go! I layer on some basics–jeans and a black top and then add the vest and booties and I’m out the door. Or a basic black dress with tights–add the vest and booties and I’m done. That’s the way I like it.

When I’m out shopping, ideally I want to find those perfect pieces that seem to work with anything. These boots work with dresses and jeans and they’re super comfortable so I can wear them all day.

This first outfit is about as comfortable and easy as it gets! I love the long, sheer top–it’s just really easy to wear. Did I mention it’s easy. Ha! Sheer top, Target. Skinny jeans, British brand, Fat Face. Red short sleeved sweater, Target {last year}. Fur vest, TJ Maxx. Booties, Steve Madden. From Any Angle Necklace, My shop.

I found this dress at The Gap last summer for $7. Random, but it seemed like a good basic. I wore it for the first time this week and it’s a perfect winter dress–nice and heavy fabric and great for layering. Dress, Gap. Tights, Target. Fur vest, TJ Maxx. Booties, Steve Madden. Gold fossil Necklace, My shop.

Would you wear either one of these outfits? Which one is more your style?

  1. Love your What to Wears! Another great way to wear that flowy top! love it! I have never tried a bootie. I can’t wear a heel, so I’d probably wear flats. Apparently, I also love exclamation points!! 🙂

  2. Love the black Gap dress…I always seem to gravitate towards black clothing lol. The fossil necklace is so unique and beautiful.

  3. Love your WIWW posts. You make it all look so good (and comfortable) without breaking the bank. What a steal on the dress from GAP. Waiting for warmer weather here (I’m in Toronto Ontario Canada) before bringing out dresses 😉

  4. off topic but I found this awesome vintage chair at the thrift today and I couldn’t help thinking “this is SUCH a Lisa Leonard chair!” lol you inspire in so many ways. . thank you!
    PS. love your WIWW posts!

      1. I did! Fifteen dollars for lovely dark tan cotton velvet, NO flaws, made in NC probably in the 50’s. You would love it!

  5. I love these wee ‘What I’m wearing’ blogs! Your pics are always things that anyone can put together in one way or another. I also love to hit the thrift stores (or charity shops as they are known in the UK!) my latest find was a gorgeous woollen coat with the tag still on £49.50 which I got for £3.50! Yeah me! x

    1. I visited some charity shops when we were in England. I found this huge oil painting that was so gorgeous–but too big to bring home. So sad! I hope it found a good home.

  6. I am totally the dress with tights/boots kinda of girl! So I would totally go that route over the jeans. I wear jeans and try to get out of them asap when I get home. I can wear a dress or skirt all day long! 🙂 I also found a fur vest at a thrift store, it reminded me of you and I bought it…cheap but, haven’t been brave enough yet to wear it! You my dear, inspire me!

  7. Both looks are super cute but I really like the jeans outfit. Those booties are adorable! I’ve been searching for an ankle pair to wear with my skinny jeans but I would have never looked at that style until now. 🙂

  8. They are both great but I am a jeans girl. I rarely go anywhere I need a dress. My son is 14 so I am usually sitting at the soccer fields or dirt bike tracks. Comfortable is priority for those places and jeans fit the bill. I Love the booties and vest. You inspire me to shake it up a bit. 😉

  9. You’ve inspired me to try the skinny jeans rolled with booties! I love that look on you and plan to try it out. Thanks for fashion inspiration!
