wrapping up/looking forward

January 4th | thoughts

2009 was good.  and the end was great.  lots of time with family, relaxing, snow play, a trip to the zoo, cookies, a campfire.  it was wonderful!

* * *

i’ve been enjoying reading new year’s resolutions around the web.  I want to set realistic goals so i don’t overwhelm myself.  but i also want to improve and make goals can be a great way to challenge myself!
goals for 2010…

organize the kitchen cupboards

clean out the garage

visit GI, orthopeadist and cardio (for David)

keep the car clean–clear out trash and toys every day

learn more about photography-buy a new lens

please share!  what are your goals for 2010?

I just want to carve out more time to do what I love to do outside of work…but I do love my job, too! Must get started working my way thru my newest cookbook, start up my walking program, work on DIY and home improvements….I’m sure the year will fly by!

  2. Corinne says:

Your keeping the car clean goal sounds like one I might have to adopt…

our big goal is to save up enough for a down payment on a home in 2011. We’ve always rented… but think it will be time. That’s the big one.

  3. ugh, cleaning out the car daily should be one of mine too.

and i too want to learn more about photography and buy a new lens. have you ever said what equipment you use now?

I only have one goal… to trust God to be the Vinedresser in my life in 2010; He will prune and tend to my branches the way He needs to — I want what He wants. There are so many areas of my life that could sing more for Him, I wouldn’t know where to start… but He will know, He always does :)

Oh, Lisa – I want to clean out your cupboards :) maybe next time we are over!! It is sadly one of my favorite activities!! Okay – I think my goal is to make more of an effort to keep contact with people. I think we tend to overwhelm our days with busyness and we don’t make the effort to make real relationships with people. I don’t like superficiality…it gets tiresome…

  6. kerry says:

Oh, I am with you on the photography thing! I am off to pick out my first dslr tomorrow night (my Christmas present from everyone!) I would also really love to take control of the clutter in my house. I just can’t shake the feeling that if I can clear out this space, it will help with all of that other clutter in my life as well. I like the keeping the car clean goal too!

Lisa, I love your jewelry – don’t get me wrong (I have bought two pieces – both gifts – dream of having a piece myself someday) but your photography knocks my socks off! Your photography is one of the main reasons I check in with you every day. I think I have nothing to take pictures of and then I log on here and see a picture of a leaf (gorgeous!) and realize I just need to take pictures period. I am sure you are very busy because you have two boys and a business and the tiny (!) take of keeping this blog going but YOU find time to take pictures, and gorgeous ones at that . I hope this encourages you today. Thanks. Claire

I love your pics of Omaha. I was born there and have family there so it makes me want to go visit them!
Ah, goals for 2010. First and foremost is to implement FlyLady. Like Kerry, I’m hoping to get rid of some clutter. I’m also on your photography kick- though you are far more advanced than I. I’m doing the Shutter Sister 365 and hope to ask for a new lens for my b-day in May. What one are you going to get? And lastly I hope to lose my baby weight meaning eating healthy and running again. Whew. Sounds like alot, but I think, more or less, it just means I need to create more structure and routine in my day. Something I struggle with as an at-home mom.
I clean out my car when I get gas- so about once a week. I think I learned that from your sister’s blog?
Hope you’re settling back into life in CA.

The Girl Talk blog ( has a great idea for “Sitting in the New Year” — choosing to sit at Jesus’ feet like Martha’s sister, Mary, did. Read it! It’s a good one.

  11. Jennifer says:

Organizing the kitchen cupboards is a good one. One of my biggest is to decutter the house and have only things that we use and love. Gorgeous pictures, thanks for sharing them.

2010 goals are: organize myself and my home – read more books – create more beauty in my garden – do all the things that are important to me – use my gifts and talents for others – scrapbook my photos – connect with a charity – . . .

  16. Heather K. says:

We updated the kitchen over the break and my cupboards are currently organized, my goal would be to keep them that way but that me may be setting the bar a bit high. Besides that I would like to take better pictures and read more. I love your blog the pictures inspire me!

    Hi Lisa!
Your blog is so cute! Great goals for this year. I have some of the same ones! I really need to take a photography class and get a new lens or maybe a new camera. I also need to organize my home…

    I hope you have a wonderful 2010!

fantastic goals. 2010 is going to be a great year :) my goals are to floss daily and run 400 miles! xo

  19. Rhea says:

My goal is to take life one day at a time. It’s hard. Ever since Olivia, my fifth got sick I have tried to not look to far in the future. I think that God has definitely taught me this.

  20. Michelle says:

which lens are looking to buy? and which lens do you use now – esp for the close-ups??

  21. Kristi F says:

Organize my house and travel as much as possible.

  22. arika j says:

I’ve got 2 that I’m really focused on: run a half-marathon (i’ve never done more than a 5K before) and go to bed each night with a clean kitchen (no dishes out, not even clean-but-drying ones). I’m attempting to keep on top of the laundry (including the dreaded task of folding/putting away). We’ll see how that goes!

  23. Lisa,
Your work is beautiful…..LOVE your blog too….cute layout w/the birds/twigs, etc…my blog layout is similar, but i adore yours!
    Have couple of requests:
    1) let me know when you decide to sell wholesale, I might be interested
    2) if i order baby spoons, for gifts right now:
on the order form it has two blanks for “notes”…the first one i know is for the name of the baby, on the front of the spoon.
on the 2nd space(order form), is this for personalization on the back of the spoon, or for notes for a gift card??
    Thanks so much!,

  24. Tiffany says:

Oh Lisa, first let me say what GREAT pictures you take!! I am loving the various ones where you make a heart – I love heart shaped things.

Second, my 2010 word, I finally settled on one – Delight. I want to delight in ALL the things in my life, no matter where I am or what I am doing and I hope to BE a delight to those I am around. I especially want to be a delight the Lord.

Third, my goals for 2010 – get caught up with 3 scrapbook projects (I am only setting a goal of 3, I too want to be realistic); get to a dermatologist; more quality time /more date nights with my hubby; back-up our photos on our computer; organize and clean out our laundry room (its detached from the house and doubles as storage for lots and lots of things)

Happy New Year Lisa – your blog is a daily blessing to ME! Thank you so very much for all you share.

  25. clare says:

my goals are to clean out the attic & try to say ‘No’ to the children less

  26. Karri says:

I’m avoiding resolutions in favor of planning experiences for 2010…
Apple picking followed by applesauce making with the help of this lovely Christmas gift
Ice skating at the National Art Gallery
Seeing the Terracotta Warriors on display at the National Geographic Museum.
    Summer picnic with friends
Going to a U Street DC Jazz show and Ben’s Chili Bowl
Making my first quilt, baby sized so as not not overwhelm myself (thanks for the kit, Mom!)
    …those and a few more….
It makes the new year seem so full of adventure and hope!
I love your photographs and blog, it’s really inspiring to me – thanks for sharing!
