what’s cookin??

Since Matty has been really into ‘cooking’ lately, i decided to have a ‘make your own pie’ night. We did this with some friends and all the kids loved it.

We used mini graham cracker pie crusts, then made vanilla pudding (but added 1/2 C. less milk than the recipe called for). From there the kids can add toppings to their own pie– strawberries, chocolate chips, whip cream, sprinkles, the works. Super easy and lots of fun!

  1. Fun! I love cooking with kids!

You might like these two kids’ cookbooks for other inspiration:

  2. Great Idea! I’m going to have to let my boys try this. They love our “make your own Mini Pizza’s night”. We use small whole-wheat tortillas for the crust, and then them top them with sauce, fresh veggies, ground turkey, a little 2% cheese, and bake it until the cheese melts. They love getting to make their own, so I know they would love this also. Thanks!

  3. Yes, you can come live with me and we will eat pies every night and we won’t rush anywhere.

  4. Can I come live with you and make my own pie too?
That sounds like so much fun, so simple, so sweet, and so different from our house tonight…rushing the kids out the door for swim lessons, stressing hard core about this retreat…
I need to regain my center and align my chi and whatever else. I need one of those pies.

  5. This is an awesome idea. My kids would love it, and it’s a fun twist on make-your-own sundae. Maybe we could start with a make-your-own pizza! Lots of fun!!

  6. Wonderful idea! This Saturday I will be home alone with the 3 boys and I think this will be a fun project for them. Maybe Ben might even eat a little of the vanilla pudding…

  7. That is a great idea. I’m going to the store tomorrow so I think I’ll pick that up for a fun weekend activity.
