3 different styles or let’s talk about denim wearing!

I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration!

Let’s chat about denim, shall we? I love jeans. I wear skirts and dresses a lot, but on days were I want to keep things easy and comfortable–it’s jeans. A good pair of jeans is like having your favorite blanket with you all day.

I wear a lot of skinny jeans and I get emails from people saying they wish they could wear skinny jeans–or asking about how to find the right jeans. So let’s take a look and I’ll give you some ideas about how I shop for denim.

There are a million styles of denim, but today we’ll chat about three. From left to right, straight leg jeans by AG, trouser jeans from Target and skinny jeans from Paige denim via TJ Maxx.

AG jeans are just awesome. They are super soft, have a little stretch and they tend to be very flattering. On the downside, they aren’t cheap–but if you’re going to wear them a few times a week, I think it’s worth the investment. Straight leg denim creates a clean line from shoulder to ankle. They’re easy to wear and can be paired with all types of shoes–from converse to heels.

Oh this necklace friends! I know it’s slightly off topic from our discussion on jeans, but I love it. You can find it here.

Pics above are of the straightleg. Let’s move on to the trouser jean {or wide leg}…

Trouser jeans balance the top and bottom of your body–so your shoulders and the bottom of your pants are in proportion which is very flattering. A pair of trouser jeans {or wide leg jeans} that fits well in the leg makes your legs look slimmer. A dark trouser jean can also be great to dress up with a blouse and heels.

And of course we can’t forget the skinny jeans…

Skinny jeans give shape to your legs. You don’t have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans! You also don’t have to be tall. A great pair of skinny jeans are fitted in the leg  and comfortable around the hips and waist. Add a flowy top to skinny jeans and you’ve got an easy look that works with most body shapes!

Outfit details: AG straight leg jeans, Anthropologie. Trouser jeans, Target {similar}. Skinny jeans, Paige Denim via TJ Maxx. Black top, Target. Fur cowl, TJ Maxx. Leopard print heels, Target. Leather bag, brought back from Thailand. Inspiration necklace, My shop.

Should we recap?

  1. I must admit that I have a love affair with boot-cut jeans. I love them expensive (True Religion) or cheap (Flirt from Old Navy). I especially like them in darker washes, because I think they are slimming (and I need all the help I can get)! I wear them almost every day, as I never know exactly what the day will bring, and I like to have options to switch from heels and a dressy top to hiking boots and a tshirt for an after-work hike.

  2. the skinny jeans win! I love them with those shoes. I wish you could come to my house and style me.
i have two pairs of jeans. I barely wear them but the ones I wear when not hiking in the woods are jeggings because they are so awesome tucked in high boots.

  3. I have on my wide leg trouser jeans today. I can get away with wearing these to work on easy days because they have a pleat and I usually wear a fancier top. I LOVE these jeans. I got mine at the Gap. Gap jeans are my favorite. I did just get a pair of skinnies from AE and I love those too. You’re right…skinnies look great with converse, boots or heels.

    Great post! xo

  4. It depends on what I’m going for certain looks just require different cuts. I have all those cuts plus boyfriend jeans which I wear a lot. I like their slouchy fit and narrow legs plus being able to roll the bottom. Ok next thing Lisa cuffing…do you ever? I like all of the cuts on you each pair changes the outfit a little.

  5. I still like Gap 1969 Curvy, they are the best. I may try a pair of skinny jeans this year as long as they are comfortable. You look great in all of them!

  6. You look great in all types! I personally only wear skirts these days and the few times I’ve tried on jeans since they feel funny. ha! I do love denim though and love how it goes with nearly everything! A denim skirt to me is what jeans are to others! Love that necklace, too!
