How I pack for a trip

what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By January 15, 2014 10 Comments

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but we are on the road a lot. With visiting family, David’s doctor visits in LA and conference speaking, I’m usually packing and heading out at least one weekend a month.

I’ve gotten pretty speedy and I’ve streamlined the process. I have to pack food, meds and diapers for David–that all goes in one bag. I pack one suitcase for the boys, one suitcase for me and then my computer bag. If we have clean laundry {BIG IF!} then I can get everything packed in under an hour.

The more I travel, the more I realize that I want to be comfortable. That means my favorite jeans, some basic boots, a black tee and a comfortable top. I wear the same thing over and over and no one even notices. If I am speaking, doing a segment on a morning show or attending a dinner, I pack a special outfit for that event–otherwise you’ll probably find me in jeans, booties, a black tee and an easy top layered over!

{I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration}

These are some of my favorite jeans, and a favorite black tee. When we’re out of town, I don’t want to think–I just want to grab something comfortable that I feel good in and GO! Jeans: British company, Fat Face. Black tee: Anthropologie. Booties: Sam Edelman.

Tops, left to right: camo button up, Forever 21. Gray hoodie, H&M. Wool hoodie, Ruby Rose. Gray moto jacket, Gap. Polka dot scarf, Zara. gray sweater with lace, TJ Maxx. Infinity scarf, Target. Black and white flannel, Old Navy. Leather bag, Thailand.

Word of the year bracelet, My shop.

When you pack for a trip, do you find that you usually underpack or overpack?

The perfect skirt, the perfect necklace. Ah–somethings just work–you know?

I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

The skirt and the necklace I’m wearing in this post are new and wow, I just love both of them. You know when you put something on and it’s just easy and it works? That’s what I love–and how I want every outfit to feel.

The black tee, denim jacket and boots are old stand-bys. I wear them all. the. time.

This pretty, flowy skirt is just fun. And of course, I can’t resist polka dots.

Love the buckle detail on the back of the boots.

Our brand new ‘nesting necklace’ is so sweet. This mama is watching over her nest and making sure everyone is cared for. So beautiful.

Outfits! stitch fix at my doorstep {yay!}

stitch fix, what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By December 24, 2013 5 Comments

A couple days ago my stitch fix box arrived on my doorstep and my heart did a little somersault. Yay! Like an early Christmas. If you haven’t heard, stitch fix is a service, where you fill out a style profile and receive a box of 5 items {clothing/accessories} on your doorstep. You can try them on at home, keep what you like and send the rest back. I love being able to try things on with what I already have–to see if the pieces will work or not.

This is not a paid post although it does contain referral links. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration. Want to see what was in my stitch fix box?

This striped top was one of my favorite things in the box. I love the colors and the fit. And the jewels around the neckline are so sweet.

I layered a chambray top under the striped shirt since it’s been chilly! The navy jacket was in my stitch fix box last month!

Have you got a charm bracelet for 2014? A charm arrives in your mailbox every month. They are available for preorder for only $129! So fun!

Outfit details: Striped top, Stitch fix. Chambray top, Target. {Just a note–I cut the sleeves off this top to make it easier to layer} Blue coat, Stitch fix {last month’s box}. Skinny jeans, Rag & Bone. Booties, Sam Edelman. Leather bag, brought back from Thailand. Charm bracelet, My shop–shop now for 2014’s bracelet!

This sweet dress was in my stitch fix box, too! I thought it would be fun with navy tights and booties, but I didn’t have any navy tights–so I layered skinny jeans under the dress. It’s a tunic style dress, so it worked for a fun, casual look.

I wore this outfit to church Sunday, which was easy and perfect for chasing David.

This bag is such a fun souvenir from Thailand. And it brings back sweet memories, too!

And this necklace is out of stock in the shop, but we’ll be bringing it back as soon as we can!

Outfit details: Dress, Stitch fix. Skinny jeans, Paige. Navy booties, Aerosoles. Leather bag, Thailand. Inspiration necklace, my shop.

what i wore – love and laurel

inspiration, what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By December 18, 2013 3 Comments

I love a good, vintage dress–how about you? This black, polka dot dress was found at a great little thrift shop for $4. Definitely worth a try, I think. I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration!

You already know that I love mixing prints–so stripes and polka dots make this first outfit easy and fun.

For the second outfit I layered a denim jacket and leopard print heels. I think I like this look better, how about you?

The love and laurel necklace is a FAVORITE this season! Have you picked on up yet?

Outfit details: Polka dot dress, thrifted. Green faux leather jacket, Forever 21 {via thrift store}. Striped scarf, found at a boutique in Savannah. Booties, Sam Edelman. Leather clutch, estate sale. Denim jacket, Gap. Leopard print heels, Target. Love and laurel necklace, my shop.

Look one is fun, but look two is more flattering, I think. Which one do you like better?

dress three ways!

what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By December 11, 2013 10 Comments

I love this red dress! I made myself think outside of the box to style it three ways. I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

The first outfit is the most casual. The second is fun and playful. And for the last look, I layered on a blue coat with a gray scarf for coziness.

So let’s start at the beginning! The first look is super easy and casual. I layered a gray sweatshirt and denim jacket over the dress and slipped on my favorite boots.

Mornings here on the coast of central California have been chilly–so layering is a must.

I’ve had these boots for about 4 years and they just get better! Although I think it may be time have them re-soled. Have you ever had boots re-soled?

This pretty little necklace is available today only! Love it.

The next look is so fun! I layered an olive green faux leather jacket and cozy scarf over the dress.

I love this little necklace paired with the fur trim on this scarf–such a fun mix!

The second look is finished with leopard print heels.

The last look is the most out of the box for me. I layered a blue, wool coat and thick gray scarf over the dress.

Matching the heels to the coat makes the look come together, don’t you think?

This is my favorite coat this season! So cozy!

Outfit details: Red dress, Target. Gray sweatshirt, H&M. Denim jacket, Gap. Boots, Anthropologie. Olive faux leather jacket, Forever 21. Cream scarf with fur trim, Target. Leopard print heels, Target. Blue wool coat, ever+mi crush. Blue heels, TJ Maxx. Gray scarf, Anthropologie. Pure heart necklace & earrings, My shop TODAY ONLY!

Which look is your favorite?

cinnamon and cream {what i wore}

thrifting, what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By December 4, 2013 5 Comments

I thrifted this coat for two dollars! Isn’t it fun? I couldn’t believe it when I found it, but then it’s so creamy and long, I hesitated to wear it. So finally last week I decided to make it work. It’s so cozy on a chilly day. I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

I styled the coat two ways. The first is with jeans and a cinnamon cashmere sweater.

The leopard print heels make it fun and tie it all together.

Gold jewelry pairs well with the cinnamon and cream.

For the second look, I switched out the jeans for a black pencil skirt and nude heels. The coat matches my legs–not sure if that’s good or bad, ha!

These heels are comfortable and almost invisible.

And this necklace?! Oh I love love love it! It’s very limited edition and only $44! Find the gold and light necklace here.

Outfit details: Cream coat, thrifted. Cashmere sweater, thrifted. Jeans, Paige Denim. Leopard print heels, Target. Black pencil skirt, Target. Nude heels, Payless. Gold and Light necklace, my shop.

Have you started your Christmas shopping? I’m jumping in with both feet and trying to get it wrapped up this week!

falling in love with stitch fix

inspiration, what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By November 20, 2013 8 Comments

Hello friends! I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

This is not a sponsored post, but it does include referral links.

Have you heard of stitch fix? I’ve been hearing about it for a while and I’ve been intrigued. Last month I was at the beach with the incourage ladies and every time I said, “Love that top!” or “What an adorable dress!” I would hear ‘STITCH FIX!” So I decided to jump in and give it a try.

Basically, you fill out a style profile and stitch fix delivers a box of 5 pieces of clothing to your door. Keep what you want, send the rest back with free shipping. It costs $25 to get your first box delivered but you can put that money towards clothing.

It’s perfect if you want to try clothes on in the privacy of your own home and see how they mix and match with what you already have. There’s no rushing {which I love} and the quality was seriously awesome!

My first box arrived last week and inside were this sweater, these jeans and this coat. I was shocked at how much a loved everything!

You can set your desired price point in your style profile, everything in my box ranged from $35-89.

 I TOTALLY recommend stitch fix. Easy and FUN! Kind of like Christmas but way easier.

Outfit details: Skinny jeans, Striped sweater, Navy coat, all stitch fix. Denim shirt, Anthropologie. Boots, Sam Edelman {via local boutique}. Love and Laurel necklace, My shop. Beauty in Brokenness bag, My shop.

how to make meaningful gift – customize this necklace with names or message!

what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By November 13, 2013 4 Comments

Hey friends! It’s Wednesday and I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration.

This week’s outfit is a little sweet and a little spicy. The leather skirt is vintage {and something that I wouldn’t normally wear} and the necklace speaks to my heart!

The leather skirt is probably from the 90’s. I remember feathering my bangs and trying to get them to go higher. And I remember stalking the Gap for sales. In high school I loved anything and everything Gap!

The tied to my heart necklace is a special piece created to benefit the CdLS foundation–that’s David’s syndrome. They’ve come alongside us and they’ve been so incredibly supportive. The CdLS foundation has given us advice on which surgeries to pursue and which to let go. They research therapies and treatments and basically they are amazing! The necklace is only $44 and GORGEOUS.

I love a soft vest and a cozy scarf on a chilly morning.

These booties are Sam Edelman from a local boutique. So comfortable–they’re a staple!

Outfit details: Leather skirt, vintage. Black top, Target. Faux fur vest, TJ Maxx. Scarf, local boutique. Booties, Sam Edelman. Necklace, My shop.

Today’s the last day–so get one or two of these necklaces! They’re only $44, can be ! Shop here.

a sweater, boots and a cowl {yay!}

what i wore wednesday, what I'm wearing By October 23, 2013 10 Comments

Hello friends! I’m linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for some fashion inspiration!

It’s been chilly here in the mornings with lots of fog. Then around 11am the fog burns off and the sun begins to warm things up. The key is layers because I like to be cozy in the morning and I don’t want to get too warm in the afternoon.

I have a special necklace to share today. It’s simple and gorgeous and priced reeeally well!

I layered on a Gracie B sweater and a Gussy sews cowl over my favorite jeans and a basic black tee.

This Gracie B cardigan is so warm and comforting–kind of like a security blanket. And the cowl from Gussy Sews is just plain soft and cozy.

And this necklace! Oh my–it’s my new favorite. A gold filled heart is layering over a sterling heart–that can be customized with special names. And I love the long, antique chain–perfect under a scarf in colder weather.

Can I be honest? I’m longing for colder weather–and I don’t mind if it stays cold all day. Once the colder weather comes, I’ll probably want warmer weather. I’m fickle like that.

I know booties are hot this season, but I’m still loving my knee high riding boots.

Outfit details: Jeans, Paige Denim. Tee, Old Navy. Sweater, Gracie B . Golden Sunset Cowl, Gussy Sews. Boots, Fossil. You’re in my Heart necklace, My shop. {very limited edition}

Are you getting fall weather where you’re living?
