mounting photos on wood DIY

April 1st | decorating, DIY

I’ve got a fun {and easy} project to share today! I snapped this pic of our green, vintage typewrite with a sweet note–and I loved it so much, I decided to mount it on wood. Also, as a gift for you, I’m including the high res image to download. Feel free to create this same project or frame the photo. It’s super high res–so you could go quite large! Read on for details.

I’ve got a thing for vintage typewriters–so when I found this green one at a thrift store, I snatched it. Isn’t it sweet?

For this project, all you’ll need is…

*a piece of wood {I got this one at Michaels for $5}
*a large photo {i had this photo developed at costco}
Click here to download the high res image typewrite image. This is my gift to you! For personal use only.
*white glue {thinned with water, 2 parts glue/1 part water}  or modge podge
*sponge or paint brush

Lay wood on top of photo and trace around edges.
Then tear photo inside of lines, so the wood will show around edges.

Cover the wood with glue mixture, then cover the back of the photo with glue mixture

Place photo on wood and cover top of photo with glue mixture

Let dry completely

I nailed directly through the wood, but you could attach a hanger to the back {if you’re not lazy like me!}

Click here to download typewriter image. For personal use only.

So fun and easy, right? I think this would be adorable with pictures of your kids at the beach. Three in a row over the fireplace? Love it!

all the beautiful things

March 26th | get creative

Last weekend I took a wire wrapping class in Morro Bay. I’ve been trying to sign up for various creative classes around the central coast, just to keep my skills fresh and learn more. It’s been so fun. And I’m inspired.

So Sunday afternoon, I got in my car. By myself. And drove the quiet 20 minutes down Los Osos Valley Road, past farms and cows and crops to Morro Bay. I spent some time thinking and praying. I arrived a couple minutes early, so I popped into a thrift shop. Awesome, right?

The bead shop has lots of succulents, glass, stones–not to mention so many pretty beads. I looked around, took my time and tried to soak up all the beautiful things.

Halfway through the class, I took a break and got some frozen yogurt with fresh raspberries. I took my camera along and snapped a few pics.

It’s so good for me to have alone time and time to stretch my creativity. I adore my boys and family time–but I need to recharge, too. Wanna see what I created in the class? Here’s a peek.

How do you recharge your soul?

believe necklace

March 25th | what I'm wearing

I’ve got something new to share with you today! Since Easter is right around the corner, I’ve been reflecting on this season of hope. The N E W believe necklace is what came from my inspiration. I hope you love it as much as I do!

This outfit is as basic as it gets without wearing sweats.
I’m a poet and I don’t even know it!

But the necklace is anything but basic! I love it.

And let’s not forget the matching bracelet.

Pretty stones are hand-wrapped on each side of the cross. And I’m loving the long 30″ length these days!

I’ve got all the boys Easter basket stuff bought and ready. Friends, that never happens. I don’t even know myself anymore! Do you do Easter baskets for your kids?

Outfit details: Favorite jeans, Big star via Zappos. Tee, Anthropologie. Sweater, Gap. Sandals, Target. Sterling believe necklace/bracelet, My shop.

hello slowing down

March 23rd | hello monday

Matthias woke up with a fever and David was up all night throwing up–so like it or not, everything came screeching to a halt and we are laying low and trying to kick the germs out of our home. My boys have been so healthy this winter, so I can’t complain. It’s good for us to take some time to regroup, rest and heal.

It’s Monday and there is so much to be thankful for!

a break from buying new things

March 17th | what I'm wearing

Hey I’m sharing my ‘what I wore’ post a day early. I’ve got something fun coming tomorrow–so make sure to check back!

For Lent this year, I decided to take a break from buying new clothing. I’ve still thrifted a couple pieces–but I’m trying to shop less and refocus some of that attention on things that matter. And there are so many things that matter so much more!

It’s been a great way to shift my perspective and it’s also been wonderful to wear pieces from my closet that I already own and love. When I walk through Target, I keep telling myself, “I’m not buying anything, I’m not buying anything, I’m not buying anything.” So far it’s working. Even the cute scarves haven’t tempted me.

For my post this week, I’m sharing outfits that I’m re-wearing and loving. Here are some of my favorite, easy pieces.

This cream dress was thrifted for a few dollars. It’s pretty much as basic as can be–and super comfortable. Love it.

This black dress from Plenty Boutique is flowy and fun. Sometimes I layer a faux fur vest over or a slouchy sweater.

This dress from Anthropologie was an after-christmas splurge with a gift card from my Mother-in-law. The cut is easy to wear and it’s something different.

I see we’re on a ‘dresses’ trend here. I’m either wearing dresses or my favorite jeans. This dress was on major clearance from Zara after Christmas. The ombre effect is different and adds character. And of course a jean jacket makes it perfect for the workshop.

This black dress from Plenty Boutique has been making the rounds a lot. I always feel pretty in it. I have a thing for black dresses.

This anthropologie dress was a Christmas gift. The pattern is different than what I would usually wear but the cut of the dress is awesome and easy.

Did you give up anything for Lent? Has it been easy or hard for you?
