*new friendship necklace {giveaway}

September 15th | older posts

friendship-necklaceintroducing our new friendship necklace.  a sterling rectangle (1″x1/2″) is adorned with two sweet flowers, strung on sterling chain with pearl detail.  so simple and organic.

and meaningful.  because as i’ve gotten older, i’ve realized that good friends are hard to come by.

it seemed to easy to connect and hang out when i swam in high school or lived in the dorms during college.  now with kids and work and all kinds of activities, i find it harder to connect with my friends consistently. let alone make new friends.  it takes time to trust someone, doesn’t it?

my friends are honest, kind, generous and patient with me.  it’s easy to pick up where we left off when we haven’t talked for six months.  and they understand when i have to cut coffee short to go pick up a sick kiddo from school.  and they tell me when i hurt their feelings–instead of letting distance and misunderstanding creep in.  what are the most important qualities of friendship to you?

leave a comment and tell us what qualities of friendship are most important to you.  in a week, we’ll randomly choose two winners for the new friendship necklace!!

  6. Sarah says:

Friends are the ones who love you no matter what, who “just get you” and who would show up at your door as fast they as could if you needed them.

  7. Ashley says:

Honesty is the big one. The test of a great friendship is being able to tell them something without fear of losing them as a friend.

A true friend is someone you may not see a lot, but when you do get together you can pick up right where you left off. Comfortable, like a cozy sweater.

  11. Kay says:

someone who doesn’t walk away when you’re walking through painful days

  16. Ellie says:

As I’ve grown older, the friends I cherish the most are the ones I can turn to when I’m at my worst…time and time again. They’re the ones who don’t judge. But in the same vein, they’re also the ones I turn to when I’m at my best and they fully embrace the joys in life. So, I guess it’s the few who can be truly present for all the ups and downs.

  17. Ellie says:

The necklace is a gorgeous tribute to one of the most special relationships. Thanks!

When I think of my best friends, I think of belly laughs so hard and long that you can’t even stand up anymore.

  22. Nicolle says:

The greatest characteristic in a friend is that fact that she will never judge you for something you did (and feel horribly about). That’s how is is with me & my best friend. I can tell her anything & I know she will never judge me (& I would never judge her). We met in the 3rd grade & have been besties ever since. Both of us have brothers so we were like each others sisters. I was made of honor in her wedding & she will be the same in my upcoming wedding! Yay!

    I LOVE the new necklace!

  23. Sallie says:

it’s hard to say what quality is most important. i guess just plain LOVE.

  24. Naomi says:

I had to move away from my best friend Beth – I was only moving two hours away and she (who is not an overly emotional person) hugged me and cried in my driveway on moving day.
Our friendship adjusted to the distance.
In January Beth will be moving across the country. We only have 3 precious months to absorb each others company before it will become a rare treat and a longed for memory.
But I know our friendship will never fade out because we love each other.
    So love.
    Love endure all things.

  25. Brooke says:

It’s about always being there. No matter what!

  26. Tranae says:

those that you can talk to once a day or once every six months and it is still the same. genuine and honest

  27. Brandi says:

Trust. I agree with you. It is hard to keep up with friends, let alone make new ones with small kids. My 2 best friends EVER……my sisters….I love them. <3

  28. Jennifer says:

Friendship to me means so many things…
I live 9hrs from my best friend..I miss her terribly.
She is the sister I never had.
She is honest, trustworthy, silly, always there when I need her, and most of all she loves me for me.
She is the best and I would love to be able to give her this wonderful necklace.

  29. Sarah W says:

What a beautiful necklace! I know who I would give one to…..

My friend Amy that I’ve known since I was six. She’s been through everything with me. Though a big ocean separates us, she’s always been there for me and most recently she came to visit me in Africa to see my life as a missionary. When we said goodbye she stood in tears and said, “Now I understand why you do what you do!” We can pick right up where we left off and she’s like a sister to me. I am blessed to have her in my life and glad to call her my best friend!

  30. Kendall says:

In 2007, my husband and I moved 8 hours away from my best friend to attend seminary. And she sat in the car and cried with me the day before I moved. But, our friendship has lasted and she’s still my best friend and she’s only a phone call away. So, I think that loyalty is the best quality in a friend.

  31. JD in Canada says:

The friendships I value the most are the ones with a symbiotic nature, where it’s a give and take, a complete sharing of life, love, hearts, good times, not-so-good times. We uplift each other, learn from each other, teach each other, support each other… where our differences compliment each other, and our similarities bring us closer together. When time goes by and we know we’ve both been too busy to nurture the friendship, we understand, and we pick up from where we’ve left off.

    I call these friendships “Sister-Friends”.

These friendships are treasures, precious jewels that must be nurtured, valued, guarded, appreciated. They are a gift from God.

  32. Heather says:

A friend is someone who is always “present” in your connections and no matter how far apart you may be a simple phone call can feel as if you are sitting over coffee in the same town…it’s comfortable…just like a short, 1%, half caf, carmel mocha, stirred with light whip. :)

  33. Bethany says:

I could write a book on friendship, but I’ll spare you.

To me, true friendship is what the others have said, but it is also made of people who contantly encourage you to be better. They know your failings and love you anyway, but it doesn’t stop there. They’re willing to say the hard things, or do the hard things, or pray the hard things to move you closer and closer toward the person God intends for you to be.

  34. Julie says:

Friendship is about trust to me. I don’t think you can truly be friends without a good background of trust :)

  35. Abbie Toy says:

There are so many qualities that I value in a friendship – but the two that seem the most important to me are warmth and kindness. When I talk to my best friend I feel like I’m “coming home.” Love the necklace and would love to give it as a gift to my dearest friend! Thanks – Abbie Toy

  36. Janelle says:

Two years ago I moved to Mexico to work at a children’s home. I so appreciate that when I go back to the states to visit that there are friends I can just pick up with and it is like I never left.

  37. Sarah Butler says:

Real friends are timeless. Stand the test of time. Honest with feelings and generous with love and understanding. Quick to forgive, slow to anger. Willing to stick up for you no matter what. Friends are ones who over time become a part of your family. You start calling each other’s parents, mom and dad. Their siblings are yours and vice versa. Laugh with you until you cry and feel like you had the best abs workout. Cry with you and comfort you when you are down, hurt or just emotionally drained. They step in when they need to fill a gap. Or step back when they feel it’s too crowded. But are always secure in the friendhsip. Friends are ones when you go to college and don’t see them for four years but you both find you way back home and pick up right where you left off, never letting go again. Ahhh, I love my friends.

  38. Stacey says:

Certainly patience (I can be so busy and consequently neglect my dear friends – they are wonderfully patient with me)… and genuineness. I love having honest conversations about our lives, good and bad. What a wonderful token of friendship that necklace is – I would love to share it with a friend going through a tough time right now. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

  39. Kristin says:

My best friend is the ones who doesn’t care that I haven’t called in weeks because they understand my crazy schedule. A friend is someone who will sit and listen while I complain about things going on and then make a joke to make me laugh. A friend is someone who makes me feel safe and like I am “coming home”. I am lucky to have a few women like this in my life…and they know they can always come to me too!

  40. Helen says:

    understanding! compassion

  41. Wendy says:

A true friend is someone who you can be yourself with – someone who quietly listens and supports you during tough times, laughs with you during joyful times, and is the first person you think to call when you have news.

Then necklace is gorgeous…thanks for the giveaway.

  42. Andrea says:

Definitely trust, honesty and someone who makes me smile when I think of the time that I have spent with them.

  43. Debbie says:

honesty & openess and that we can laugh together!

  44. Erin G says:

To me, friendship involves trust and making the other person a priority. Only a few friends completely exhibit this in my life, and they are all the more treasured because of it.

  45. Linda Mills says:

There are a myriad of qualities that constitute a great friend…..the qualities vary depending on the person. My bestest girlfriend has a wonderful sense of humor, would help me in a sec, loves to exercise, loves to drink light beer on the beach, pokes fun of herself, and encourages me at every turn to never give up! I love her and appreciate her. She is also a cancer survivor who has never once felt sorry for herself….she is amazing!

  46. Mim Owen says:

For me, it’s about understanding one another, being tolerant and patient. And having fun as well as the serious stuff.

  47. Torri says:

Constant. We are the same today as we were 30 years ago. We laugh at our daughters, who look just like us – and were born 5 days apart. Love the necklace – I am the short flower and she is the tall one.

  48. Jen says:

Friendship to me is being there no matter what. Through the good and bad. The best kind of friend is one who will encourage you in the things of God, who will hold your hand through the hard times, who will be honest with you and isn’t afraid to hurt your feelings because at the end of the day, she knows your strong enough to take it – even if it does hurt at first. Friendship is about seeing the other person the way God sees them because there will be times (ok, most of the time) we don’t see ourselves that way and we need a friend to say, “You’ve grown so much in the Lord. I wish you could see what I see.” A true friend won’t just say they are praying for you because you are always in their prayers. Friends aren’t just friends – they are our sisters in the Lord.

*Beautiful necklace. Awesome representation of friendship.

  49. Andrea T. :) says:

Oh I LOVE this one! I think the best qualities in a friend are honesty and faithfulness. Someone who will stick with you through thick and thin but isn’t afraid to tell you those words you really need to hear, even if you don’t like them :).

I’m so glad I have a best friend of 20+ years who shows both of these qualities. I think she’d love this necklace.

  50. Cathi says:

Like you, I have grown to appreciate my friends more and more. One of the key qualities that I’ve found in my friends is the ability to ‘go there’- whether that be with honesty, and telling it like it is, or just being able to be silly and ridiculous in a way that can’t always be let out in day-to-day life. I adore your jewelry, and your blog, Lisa!

  51. julie says:

    listening to each other
    having time to travel together
    answering long emails
being honest even if it is hard but helpful 😉

  52. Sarah says:

Oh, my! I was just looking at this (and will probably be ordering if I don’t win) for my dearest friend R. She lives in California (I’m in IL), and has been my best friend since college. We see each other once a year at best, but have many heart-to-hearts over the phone, email, facebook, etc. She’s volunteered to come stay with us in December after the birth of our second baby to help with whatever she can… and this just blows me away, since she’s only working part time while finishing her master’s degree. It’s a sacrifice of time and resources on her part, and I think that’s what makes her such a great friend. She’s willing to go the extra mile, whatever it takes, to love a friend.

  53. stephanie says:

a true friend is patient, kind, and most of all supportive. she prays for your success along with her own. she loves your family as if it was her own. and she MUST laugh and laugh often!

  54. Theresa says:

I have been blessed to have a group of amazing ladies as a friend base. Some of us have been friends for 30 years. The quality I cherish the most is the compassion and loyalty we have. No matter wher we all are we are right there if needed! I love them all!

  55. Daisy says:

THere is NOTHING better than friends!!! I am so blessed to have WONDERFUL ones, and that they love the Lord and honor Him with their life is the greatest characteristic a friend could have. Right after that being that we have things in common, love our kids and have fun and laugh together. THey need to be trustworthy (not usually a problem if they love the Lord, lol!) and a good listener. Friends are the BEST and I’d love to have this necklace to give to one who has a birthday coming up soon!

  56. Absolutely beautiful. I love it.

I honestly don’t have a lot of friends. I used to. But people get older, go elsewhere, change goals…It’s been hard for me. Honestly, my sister is probably my best friend. We don’t always get along. But we work it out. Last week we were yelling at each other one minute, and laughing at an inside joke the next.

Forgiveness is a big deal for us. =)

  57. Loyalty, Honesty,Trust,Good Listener are very important to a friendship. But their are so many more… the necklace.

  58. MrsBagley says:

I love that….over the years we have been with each other through a lot of relationships, bad decisions, weddings, babies, jobs, parents illnesses, sibling junk, financial woes….I love my bff….could not imagine my life with out her

  62. Emilee Sefton says:

I love this new necklace! Funny, I was just having a discussion with a good friend about the qualities we need in a friendship. No more of the “shallow” friendships, we need a deep one. One that will encourage us to be our best, spiritually and emotionally. Someone we can gain wisdom from, and share the good, bad and ugly with!

  63. cheryl says:

my oldest, dearest friend is honest and true. she always follows through with what she say and she can make me laugh like no one else. she doesn’t judge, but will always listen with an open heart. she has faith in me as a person and she loves me no matter what. the necklace is just beautiful and i would be honored to give it to my best friend if i win! i’ll keep my fingers crossed.

  64. Britiney says:

A listening ear without fear of judgment or reprisal. Someone who loves me even though I’m completely screwed up!!

  65. Lovely! If I won this, I’d give it to my sister. We fought like cats and dogs when we were young but have grown to be great friends–she’s always there for me and is a great cheerleader.

God blessed me with her friendship when i needed someone to understand me….who knew my thoughts before i knew how to put them into words! through her friendship, God has brought many revelations into my life over the last couple of years….and i have bloomed because of our friendship. she compliments my life in so many ways that my soul needs! i am so thankful for the intimate friendships the Lord has put into my life! this is beautiful….and speaks from the heart!

  71. Jenna says:

a true friend means being able to understand and accept one another right where they are at. even when its messy, and undone they are still there to listen and help pull you back together. a true friend is caring, supportive, loving, honest and can make the toughest situations easier to go through. :)

  72. Melissa says:

What a lovely necklace (absolutely adorable!!) and important message about friends! My best friend and I lost touch a few years ago which broke my heart . . . Now she is going to have her first child this week and we have renewed our friendship in the past few weeks . . .she’s scared about becoming a parent for the first time . . . I’m so happy that she has turned to me with her fears and asking for advice . . . it means that our friendship was never truly lost, just misplaced for a while . . . thanks for the reminder about good friends!!!

  81. Kathy says:

My favorite qualities are honesty (sometimes brutal if necessary), fun, like-mindedness (believer), ability to make me smile even when I don’t want to! I am so blessed with some amazing women in my life!

The qualities that I admire in my friends are honesty, sincerity, and a common love of Jesus Christ. As I have aged I have realized that friends change and that is okay. . . but your true friends will always be there for you . . . even if they are new friends.

  83. Angel Sarchett says:

Friendship is being there when you need each other – laughing together thru the good times and holding each other thru the bad times. It’s a call or a txt just to let the other person know you are thinking about them and hoping they have a wonderful day. =)

  84. Andrea L says:

Trusting, when we let each other just be ourselves, and sometimes hold each other accountable. For me a Christian friend makes a huge difference, simply because we are on the same path with the same motive in life. We fellowship sharing what we’re learning and know.

    Great necklace!

  86. Amy says:

My favorite qualities in my best friend are her loyalty, kindness, patience and her sensitivity to situations. While I was trying to have my first child, she got pregnant with her second and third. She never talked about her pregnancies unless I asked first (which I did often – she’s my best friend!) because she knew how hard it was for me to see and hear about peoples babies. I now have my little miracle and we are enjoying our girls growing up together. I’m so thankful to have her in my life.

  87. Karen Brown says:

My most treasured friends are the relationships where there is no judgement, just acceptance and love for the person God created them to be. My dearest friends are the ones I can call anytime, for anything and I know they will be there for me or my family…to hear my sorrow, laugh at my mishaps and pray for me always.

  88. Rebecca says:

  92. Melinda says:

I think that acceptance is one of the most important things in friendship. To support another person in something you do not necessarily agree on it the true mark of friendship.

  93. dear lisa!

i started reading your blog just a few days ago and i am absolutely hooked – with your inspiringly beautiful jewellery as well as with your sweet little stories about your family and your life together. thanks so much for sharing.

taking each other the way we are, looking past our flaws and loving each other anyway. passing and accepting criticism whithout getting hurt. forgiveness. inspiring each other. honesty. helping each other out. sharing good times but also bad times. being there for each other. talking on the phone every once in a while, even if you currently live thousands of miles apart. – that’s what friendship means to me…

i think, you don’t need to have millions of friends; or let’s better say you can’t have millions of true, close friends. if you only have one person in the world you’d call a true friend, you are already blessed.

    julia (from austria/europe)

  94. what a sweet and lovely necklace! friendship to me means loyalty, transparency, and non-judgement. thanks for this giveaway!

  95. Tonya says:

To me, a true friend is the one who can see through your fake smile and knows you’re not fine even though you say it a thousand times; comes a-runnin’ when she hears your house has been broken into; leaves work to bring you a diet dr. pepper when you’re watching her kids and have no soda in your house; tells you when you’re being a total shrew to your husband; loves your kids as if they were her own; doesn’t pass judgement when you order a side of ranch to go along w/your chips and salsa; makes you laugh ’til you cry or wet your pants; prays for you and with you…can you tell I’ve got an amazing bff?! 😉

I’m with you: honesty is key. Facing the good with the ugly. I also think prayer among friends is huge. Knowing that someone will go with you before the Lord when in need – amazing. And of course all those things that are among the obvious: someone you can laugh with, who understands your weirdness, someone you love and can be there for as well. A friend that will let you be their friend just as much as they will be yours.

a true friend is someone who will just listen. someone that can talk, laugh and cry with. someone who understands my crazy quirkiness and excepts it. someone who gives good hugs.

hope i win this necklace! :)

  105. Melissa says:

I have found that the easiest friendships I have are with people I have fun with and have things in common with. When you have kids doing activities every which way, it’s easy to maintain a friendship with those other parents who are doing the same thing. My best friend, of 20+ years and I don’t really have much in common anymore. We are still friends now, because we talk, a lot. We are more like sisters, but we still laugh our heads off together!

  106. marla m. says:

    honesty and laughter.

  107. Love, understanding, compassion, and someone I can trust my life with. I especially cherish a friend who I can call and cry to and laugh with. I am fortunate to have a few people in my life who fit these characteristics and I can call them my BEST friends. I would love an opportunity to give a necklace to them.

  108. Brittany says:

My best friend is now living in a different city. Even though we are separated by 2 hours, I know that if I ever needed her help or support she would be here in less than 2 hours. And the same goes for her. I would be there as fast as I could if she ever needed anything!

  109. Kris says:

A good friend is one who is there for the good times and the bad. They know when to laugh with you and when to cry. Good friends are hard to come by but they are such a blessing.

  111. Robbin says:

The old saying (not sure of the exact quote): A friend is someone who knows everything about you…and loves you anyway, just like Jesus. A couple of things about my best friend is that she is there when I need her, she encourages, she shares her struggles freely, and now that we are apart from each other, figures out ways to keep in touch – we even figure out ways to meet each other, either halfway or she comes to visit (well, once, but, hey, I’ll take it). I can trust her with my own struggles and we have times of laughter and fun. And I love the necklace.

I love your new design. What I look for in a friend is someone that doesn’t judge everything you do and accept you for who you are. They don’t try to change you to “fit” into what they want.

  119. Katie says:

My best friend Jenny recently moved away and I miss her fiercely! We used to live 4 minutes apart and would constantly be at each others houses. While the kids played, we would sip coffee and chat. So fun! Now that she’s gone, we still talk on the phone everyday, but it’s just not the same. I would love to be able to send her this necklace to let her know how important she is to me, no matter where she lives!

  120. Jenny D. says:

My friends are spread out among a variety of different states and we don’t get to see each other very much. But we always know that we’re only a phone call away from being connected. Distance isn’t an issue for true friends!

  121. Noelle White says:

I have always said that you are given your family but your friends are something that you can choose. With that being said, my friendships are full of support, encouragement, laughter and NO GUILT. We are all busy women and the last thing we need is to feel guilty for not being able to get together, or return that phone call. Friendships should be about joy and I thank God for my great group of friends.

I like honesty. I don’t have times for games. I need a friend who will speak the truth in love. I also really appreciate someone who shares similar values.

Friends will call you out when you’re being stupid, and you don’t mind because you know they have you’re best interests at heart. Friends will laugh with you and listen to you blubber for hours about boy troubles. Friends encourage, love, and bring out the best in you.

  124. Priscilla says:

my best friend and I became friends in 1975 – she helped me as a newby in the community and I helped her by getting her in Bible study and bowling :) We have not lived in the same town for 30 years, but thanks to instant messaging we “talk” often – her friendship means perserverence in adversity as well as joy in blessings (thank you, Roget!!)

a friend is someone who loves you for who you are (flaws and all) and you love them just as they are. A friend shares the adventures of life with you, the joys and the sorrows. I also think you need to have a friend you can laugh with ( from the belly, can’t breathe kind of laughing)

  127. Julie says:

Loyalty and honesty and trust for me. And of course love!

  129. Paula Warlick says:

I am so lucky to have a great group of friends that I can rely on. We would do ANYTHING if we needed to for each other and know that they would do the same too. We are all so busy. Some of us have kids and others are empty nesters – but we always stop what we are doing to get together every Sunday to knit and gab! We also get together on Monday evenings too. My friends are important to me now that I’m older. I really value their friendship and all of their experiences that they have to share. When I moved here 6 years ago, I only knew my husband’s family – and they are part of my circle of friends- but I know that this group of friends are like my family too! (without the strings!)

So many qualities are essential, but when you’re having “one of those days” a good friend is always there to listen, help and make you laugh. Suddenly you know you’re not alone.

  132. Laura says:

Love the necklace! Friendship is always being there for each other. Someone to tell you those shoes are ugly, no matter how comfortable they are.

Humor, honesty, and understanding! The necklace is beautiful.

  135. Maureen says:

Since most of my very closest friends live half-way across the world from me, communication is the most important to me. I have friends that I literally am not able to see for years, but when we finally catch up, its like we were never apart. This is so important to me. A friend who no matter where in the world I am, I can always go to her with anything, and I know she’ll be praying for me.

  136. Faith says:

I think that trust and compassion are the keys to a successful friendship. Someone that you can confide in and laugh with. My friend Denise would look lovely in this necklace.

The most beautiful thing about friends? To meet each other and go out for a coffee, after a long period of distance (some friends live far from me!),and to see that we are still as binded together as the last time we met! :-)
    Ps:lovely necklace! :-)

  138. phinner says:

sharing and holding the light when the other can’t

    : .)

  139. Kristin says:

    LOVE LOVE LOVE the necklace!!!
A true friend is someone that is honest, understanding, kind and trustworthy. My best friends always want what is best for me, are not afraid to tell it like it is, and are the people I love spending time with. They are the first ones to hear the good news and the bad. They are also the ones I laugh the hardest with. I am blessed to have the friends I do!

  140. Kathy says:

Friendship is hard to come by – I didn’t realize that when I was young. I’m 47 now, the kids are grown and there have been a couple of moves along the way and life – life can be hard and it has totally changed me, I’m not the person I used to be. I didn’t know I wouldn’t alway have a good friend, oh I’ve got acquaintances, neighbors, that sort of thing, but I miss those deep friendships that I once had. Actually though, sometimes friends can take the place of God if we’re not careful, and I believe that’s why I’ve had this “dry” season in my life. I believe I looked to friends sometimes when I should have been looking to God. Be sure to give God 1st place in your life and the rest will fall into place.

  141. Jessica says:

    beautiful necklace.
my friends are patient with me as I’ve been traveling for my work for the last year and a half; they cherish time spent with me and spend time communicating with me via the phone, email, blogs, whatever when I am not a short drive away.

And my friends make me laugh. We find humor in the days and that’s a sweet kind of golden lining that I never want to miss.

  142. Corinne says:

    Such a pretty necklace!

Thanks for the give away! : )

  145. Jenifer says:

I love this necklace, it is so beautiful! A friend is one that loves you when you are unlovely and also not for what they can get. A key that can help relationships is giving. What a friend we have in Jesus! And he gave the ultimate gift, his life, for us! ♥

  146. Ann Marie says:

My best friends are understanding and kind and will help out at the last minute when I need them, even if it’s totally inconvenient.

  147. mel says:

what a beautiful necklace! I look for someone who is honest and trustworthy. Someone you can laugh with is a must! :)

  148. Cathy says:

friends don’t judge, listen well and offer advice when asked to!

  149. Jenn P. says:

    Listen and Understand!

  150. Jess says:

To me a friend is someone who is reliable and loyal, funny and positive, and someone who can take a few minutes out of a busy day every once and a while just to chat.

  153. Lori says:

Love the new necklace. Must have!!!!!
I don’t have many friends as it is difficult to put the time into a new friendship when you have a child with special needs. But my dearest and closest friends are those that are always there when I need them no matter how long it has been since we spoke. They cheer me up and let me know I am loved and everything will be alright. I can count on them no matter what.

  154. someone who is willing to call me out when they see fault.

  155. melissa says:

the necklace is beautiful, you always make such lovely designs!
friendship to me is based in honesty and trust, with definitely a big helping of laughter and love!

  156. Jennifer says:

I just love it that my friends are available to me and that they are girls – I love my husband, but he’s a boy and just doesnt’ “get” every emotion that I have! I love the little flowers on the necklace – almost like little button holes.

  157. Sarah says:

I think that honesty and humor are two of the most important qualities. Having a friend be honest even when that might be difficult. Also having someone to giggle with when things are great as well as tough. My best friend is my sis!
Love the necklace! Your designs are inspiring!

    Love your jewerly and website!!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

P.S. I have signed my name with xo for YEARS – :)

friendship to me means loyalty, acceptance, someone who will be there for you no matter what, someone that you can call at 3 am and know they will come immediatly. that person that no matter how much time or distance comes between you they will be there!

  163. Heather says:

You can always rely on a true friend. They’ll be there for you for whatever you need, willing to drop their own issues or tasks that may not be as important.

  164. donna says:

    Honesty and loyalty
this is my first visit. I was just introduced to your jewelry on friday through an email from Dayspring.
yesterday, a client walked into work wearing one of your necklaces and I recognized it immediately!
i am ordering one for my daughter-in-law for Christmas.

  165. mel says:

two qualities that are most important to me in a friendship are just “being there” for each other and communicating. lots of communicating. :) i love that we have all the types of communication we have now, from cell phone calls, texting, emailing, facebooking. so much easier to keep in touch during the busy kid-raising days we mommies have. :)

i love all your designs, lisa and i’ve been looking for just the right one for a very dear friend of mine. this one will be perfect!

  166. nicole says:

non judgemental, honest and fun to be with!

  167. Jennifer says:

A great friend is someone you can always be yourself with and who will always be real with you. Someone you trust to tell you to encourage the good in you and kindly point out flaws that need worked on. Someone who shares your most important values.

  168. natalie says:

My friends are great because they are EASY…and they KNOW me. They make fun of me, they laugh with me, they make me forget TIME. I love that about them.

  169. Sylvia says:

I don’t have a sister, so my girlfriends are like sisters. We have grown together, married, had babies, all the while keeping our relationships intact. I love my “hens”.

  170. Laury Booy Hoganson says:

Faithful, honest, dependable, and has to have a sense of humor (a silliness factor 😉 I have a special person I’d love to give this to. She probably has no idea how much she means to me.

  171. Christy says:

Thank you for the great giveaway! Your talent is amazing, and your words always inspire. To me, friendship is an understanding heart, one that (as you said) can pick up 6 months after having to hurriedly end a conversation in a mini crisis, and just never made it back to the telephone. Life has a way of sifting out true friendships.

  172. Laura says:

honesty and loyalty are a must!!

  173. Becky says:

    Loyalty and always having fun!

  174. Carol Walter says:

Faithful, is the word that comes to me. The Lord has blessed me with faithful friends. One I have had for over 50 years!

  175. Deb says:

a good friend…someone who isn’t afraid to be real & someone who isn’t afraid to laugh at herself

  176. Colleen says:

I have no sisters so my friends fill that spot… trustingm faithful, loyal, honest and always there!

  177. Shari says:

I have come to know friendship’s true meaning as my sister and I have grown older, she is 7 years younger than I am, and we have grown so much closer as we get older. FAMILY means true friendship, Nicole is my best friend.
Love the necklace, one more awesome creation! Thanks Lisa.

  178. Karen says:

Good, True Friends are hard to come by for sure! I love the kind of friend like you described, of being able to connect in minutes if you haven’t seen them in 6 months! Blogs are so great for helping to stay and feel connected in each other’s lives. The necklace is adorable! I would give it to my friend Kris who I have known for almost 30 years (of course we weren’t really friends when we were 2, but it’s amazing to still be connected after all these years!).

  179. julie says:

    friends are honest and understanding!

  180. Tracy says:

someone you can just be yourself around, and who will act a little foolish with you every once in a while on purpose is a real friend…I also agree with you about “picking up after you left off” after 6 months (or even more!)~ someone that you can grow with, even if you’re not right there with them the whole time… The real, true, and best friendships are few, but GOLDEN! Beautiful design, as always ~ the simplicity is just perfect!

  181. Tracy says:

By far, my favorite of your sweet designs! I found it hard to make friends until I turned forty. I was a young bride, three kids by 26 and I just didn’t connect. Now I have more friends that I can keep up with. The most important trait, that they love me even when I can’t be available to run around, talk on the phone, etc. When I haven’t talked to one of them for months, pick up the phone and we pick up right where we left off. I LOVE that. And that is hard to come by. Real friends aren’t needy.
Keep up the great work girlfriend!

  182. Someone who is honest and not afraid to tell the truth. My closest friends are not afraid to help me correct my bad attitudes and negative comments. They love me enough to be that honest with me. Not to mention they all have a sense of humor and can be silly and immature with me.

  183. Mindy May says:

The most important part of friendship is being there for one another. It is easy to let laundry, dishes, and whatever else is going on in your life to let go of your friends. Friendships are based on communication and you need to sit down and call your friends.

  184. Desiree says:

accountability & someone who is able to laugh.

  185. Linda Cernetic says:

I would give the necklace to my friend Bonnie who has been my friend for 55 years, we are both sixty this year. It was in her home that I learned how to love and what a Mom and Dad should be, she shared her parents with me always, and when they went home to heaven, none of our mutual friends were surprised to see me there with her, I can not see her for years but when we do we pick up where we left off and she is my greatest encourager (besides my husband) She also knew me when and still loves me!

  186. Candy Foster says:

Oh, this makes me miss my best friend. She moved away about 10 years ago. I can’t pin-point the exact characteristic that makes her so special . . . she just is. It’s amazing how 600 miles, 10 years, and 7 kids can’t change a thing–or at least not the important ones.

  187. Cass says:

loyalty and comfort!! (feeling utterly comfortable and vulnerable with them)

and yes, good friends are priceless!

  188. Melody says:

Vulnerability and, not sure what the actual word for this would be, but just being able to sit in the same room and not have to talk….being comfortable that way. I have such wonderful friends. We all know each other through our church, and we’re kind of like our own big family since most of us don’t live in the same city as our parents. Being single 20-something’s, it’s so nice to have our close group of friends!

  189. Marina says:

My friends all have that same quality as yours – that we can go 6 months with forgetting to return phonecalls but no-one minds and when we do speak, it feels just like the last time was yesterday. Loyalty is something I really treasure.

  190. Susan B says:

A friend is someone who accepts you as you are flaws & all! A friend is someone you can be yourself with. Friends are so important in our lives. You necklace is SO beautiful!! I’d love to give it to all my friends.

  191. Kristin says:

I agree, good friends are hard to come by. I think the best friends are those that you might not see all the time, but you can always call no matter what and pick back up where you left off. Them knowing your faults and weaknesses and still loving you in spite of them.

  192. Whitney says:

I have to agree that it is harder when we get older to make and even sometimes keep good friends. I like to have friends who we can do things together and tell anything too and they will listen and give me advice. I like to have fun and want someone that likes that. I think it is also important to be loyal and trustworthy! A true friend is all of these things and more…..friends really do help to make a bad day bright in ways that others cannot!

  193. Amy says:

Someone who is always willing to love you even when you are unlikeable. A friend is someone who helps you make lemonade when life hands you lemons. –Amy

  195. Gin says:

Beautiful! I’m getting married in the spring and this would be a perfect gift for my two bridesmaids!!!

Qualities in friends, trust and compassion. A little humor wouldn’t hurt either! :)

  196. Heather says:

In friendship, humor and trust are the most important to me. I need to know that what I share in confidence with my friends, stays that way. And of course, there always needs to be laughter!
    What a beautiful new design~love it :)

  197. Tricia L. says:

Acceptance, trust, brutal honesty, and of course lots of laughter, all make up the perfect friend.

  198. Jennifer Hart says:

My most important quality in a friend is honesty. Being honest with your own feelings and speaking your mind and not going just with the crowd. My second favorite quality is having a sense of adventure and spontenaity.

  199. Andrea says:

I have been blessed with some wonderful friends! They are faithful, honest and kind hearted. Most importantly, they love to LAUGH…the kind of laugh that makes your stomach hurt!! True, genuine friends!

  200. Judy says:

Caring, there through thick and thin, honest, trustworthy.

    The necklace is beautiful.

  201. Amy says:

Beautiful new design! Honesty, sense of humor and understanding.

  202. Caralyn says:

Grace. A friend needs to have grace…*I* need to have grace. Cute necklace!

  203. Maya says:

OMG, I am looking for a birthday present for my friend and this will be perfect!

True friend is the one that is always there for you even when you do stupid things. One that does’t play silly games and is always honest with you (if you want so)

  204. denise sullivan says:

My friend Mary defines the beauty of friendship. She helps me prioritize my worries, we laugh about things we’d cry about otherwise. We held each other’s hands when we lost our dads. She talks me off the ledge and reminds me who I am when I am having a bad day. A good friend is loyal and knows who you really are (and still loves you).
Despite my lust for Lisa Leonard jewelry I would give her the necklace if I won it!
(Thank you for your inspiring website. It always makes me feel good).

  205. Amy says:

I good friend is someone who doesn’t judge and who will always stick by you through thick and thin. And when things are tough, they will make you laugh or be there to give you advice. It’s funny how as you get older you have so many different kinds of friends. It’s not like high school or college. As you get older, you have your “childhood BFF”, your “work BFF”, your “other mommy BFF”, your “single BFF.” I really cherish the diversity in those friends. Each is there for you for a different reason and I feel very lucky to have an awesome group of friends. I would just have a REALLY hard time deciding who to give the necklace to!!

  206. Tiffany says:

On an intimate level, honesty & loyalty. But there always has to be humor & a sense of adventure for the good times.

  207. Robyn says:

Friendship to me is: honesty, understanding and acceptance. Sometimes I worry that I have not been as good a friend as I can be and maybe those that I think I am close with don’t feel the same way. That is why honesty is most imporant…if I have been selfish, hopefully my good friends will tell me so! LOVE the new design and I know exactly who I would give it to!!!

  208. Christina says:

The key, for me, in friendship is dependability. I love being to depend that someone will be there when I call. I depend on them to be honest and trustworthy. There are obvious things that anyone would like to have in a friend: kind, honest, share things in common. But to be dependable, amidst all the things life throws at you- that seems to be a rarer quality.

  209. Sara says:

I love it when I don’t see a friend for a long time and we can just pick up where we left off…..low maintenance is good. I treasure all of my friends.

  210. Vicky says:

My ladies must be dependable, honest, trustworthy & beautiful (and I don’t mean pretty)! Must also be excellent listeners, shoulders to lean or cry on & love cocktailz-n-cnversation, which is one of my personal favorite pasttimes!

  211. Helen says:

A friend is someone thats with you thru the sunshine and the rain.. both bring us closer and let us bloom.

  212. Wendy C says:

I cannot express how much I LOVE this necklace! I have a friend who has been by my side in my ups and downs and vice versa. What a beautiful way to express love and gratitude for a friend! BEAUTIFUL!

  213. Kim says:

Friends love and respect, never give up and don’t spill the beans!

  214. Christina says:

My best friend Kate embodies all of the qualities of an amazing friend: she’s honest and dependable, has a great sense of humor, and is caring and compassionate. I’m pregnant and plan to name the baby after her if it is a girl!

  215. Susan C says:

Wow – I LOVE that necklace. Friendship is so much and I my “bestest friend in all the world” and I have been friends since 5th grade and we will both turn 52 in just a few months! We are always “there” for each other – whether in person or on the phone. We’ve “been there” for each other in births, deaths of loved ones, marriages, divorces, graduations – you name it, we are “there” for each other. I know that no matter what happens I can just call her and she’d be “there” and she knows the same of me. Thanks for letting me share and I’d love to win this necklace! It would also be cute to have a “friends” necklace that had a flower on each necklace and when together they were complete!

  216. erin taylor says:

This is GORGEOUS! I know just who I want to give one to. The two qualities I choose as important in a friend are honesty and kindness. They’re inextricable from each other to be a good friend.

  217. Vicki Spencer says:

I am so lucky to have a group of pals that I have known for over 20 years…some of them for over 30 years…we laugh together and cry together and I cant imagine my life without them. They are my family!!

P.S. I have a BFF that just found out she is going to be a very young granny and I bet she would love this necklace =)

  218. Gretchen P says:

Friendship is about the good times and the bad times. It’s being able to do nothing with someone and love every minute of it or to cry on their shoulder. The friends in my life make it so much better and richer!

  219. Katie says:

Friendship for me means being able to just be myself – warts and all.

  220. Valerie Ross says:

    Hi Lisa,

My 2 best friends don’t judge me, and don’t give advice (something my husband can’t NOT do when I have a problem!). They just listen, and I know I can tell them anything. I’d be lost without them.

I love the new necklace, I’m going to order for both of them I think.

  221. Denissa says:

Trust and acceptance are the most important to me…there is nothing like having a friend that you know truly loves and accepts you no matter what your faults or short comings may be.

  222. Alana says:

honesty, understanding, compassion…founded in faith, truth and love…and lots and lots of laughs!

  223. Jessica says:

Reliability…I have two friends who are the best and every morning we are there for a each other via email. We haven’t missed a day emailing since we all graduated college and moved away over 8 years ago. Just knowing they are there for me and will listen to my venting, marriage/kid stories and I can be there for them as well.

  224. Jessi says:

Friendship is complete trust and knowing that your kids have one more person who is irrationally crazy about them.

  225. Kori says:

Since my husband just passed the end of August I have come to learn that good friends are always there and dependable.

  226. Amanda says:

  227. Kelli says:

My favorite kind of friend is the one that, when she calls you or you call her, she gives you no guilt trip about being out of touch. She is just so thrilled to be talking to you and that gives you the freedom to talk without feeling bad or upset that you went so long with no communication. I think that is the sign of someone who truly loves you and wants to hear from you!

  230. Courtney Welch says:

Trust and honesty are probably the most important qualities I feel I look for in a friend. Im 18 and already in my short lived life I have really found that good true friends are hard to come by. I have very few what I consider true and unconditional friends, someone i feel loves me for who I am as a person and I could go to with anything and they would be there for me. My best friend Kaleigh, although the miles between Scottsdale, AZ and Seattle, WA keep us apart and we see eachother not as often as we would like, wether we talk once a day, week or month, she is the one true friend I know would always be there for me at the drop of a hat and I would do the same for her . Each and every moment we do get to spend together makes memories that will last a lifetime.

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

I’m not sure I can enter this contest since I won the little play house (Thank you!) and I’ve purposely not entered other contests for this reason…..but this post just really struck home with me and friendships have been on my mind and heart lately. You are so right that now as we are getting older, with kids, school, work, hubby’s, etc, there is little time to really make new friends and barely enough time to feed our standing friendships. But I’m realizing that *true* friendships, the ones exactly like you described, are so rare. I love honesty, humor and just a sweet, kind hearted friend.

I love when each new year starts and look forward to seeing how many new friends God will bring into my life and actually keep a journal of new friends I meet each year-weird, huh? My favorite kind of friends are those who are like the sister you never had-you just click on so many levels.

  256. Abbey says:

I would definitely say trust is the core quality of my friendships. Trust that if I confide, it won’t be shared. Trust that they will speak when there are words that need to be said (either in correction or encouragement). only two qualities…okay here goes….

1} to listen and not say a thing when the words of love or hate or despair come pouring out of me…let me pour myself out….and then you can talk and help me back to a level plateau….

2} laugh with me all night long, while we watch old movie re-runs and drink a few too many “hard mike lemonades” and eat too many sour cream and onion potato chips, while talking about all the people we went to high school with that thought they were so cool back then and now are losers :)

yet the friendships that we all cherish are the TRUE ones. nothing can beat the loyalty, devotion, and love of a true friend; and it all starts with ourselves. BEING a true friend is the only way you will ever have a true friend. =]

A true friend will stand by you no matter what and love you for who you are (flaws and all). A true friend is like family – no matter how upset you get with them, you always know that they are there for you no matter what.

  349. Michelle says:

This is a new favorite! I appreciate sincerity and total mutal acceptance in a friendship above all.

Two things? Trust and the willingness to step in and help when needed . . . no matter what time of day!

  361. Abigail Heath says:

This past year, as I have been a part of caring for my father as he battled cancer, friends have become vital to my survival. I think the qualities most important to successful friendships are empathy and honesty. I would rather have a friend say to me, “You know what, I really don’t understand what you are going through, but I hurt for you,” then try to “fix” it. Your new creation is beautiful! I just stumbled across your work and have fallen in love already = ]

  362. Friendship for me is about honesty! God is still teaching me how to be a better friend to others and through that, I am learning that being honest with myself and with others is a key element in friendship! This is so tough to help her with because I am telling her quite honestly that it never goes away. You will always find people who act like they are a friend , but when it comes down to it, they are really not. Make lots of friends for sure, but you will end up with just a handful of true and good friends that you trust and know they love you.

  381. Kristen says:

The most important quality of friendship is just that true friends will always be there when you need them. It doesn’t matter if you spoke the day before or 10 years ago, when the need arises friends are there. I am going through a divorce and it is HARD….I feel so alone. Then my friends are there to pick me…people I have not spoken to since high school or college…are there for me. Then my friends who have seen it all, and I talk to everyday…they are still here, for whatever I need. Without friends in my life I would be lost right now. I know that things will get better, and having friends around softens the blow. They tell it like it is, and let me cry on their shoulder….LOVE THEM ALL!
Friends are the best…….they never let you down!!!

  382. Jan Richards says:

A true friend loves you just as you are. Just like Jesus. No need to earn their love
because they don’t have a lot of pre-conceived ideas about how you should be behaving.

The qualities that are important to me are:
Unconditional loyalty, LOVE, honesty and sacrifice. Having a good friendship is that acceptance that allows us to be who we are, fully, without fear that it might be withdrawn. Unconditional love in friendship, is loving your friend NO MATTER WHAT, at all times and in all places. There cannot be a true friendship if there is lack of honesty. I think of my friendships as I would ‘a sister’…a continual circle of love. Why sacrifice? I believe that we must all sacrifice in the name of friendship-there are times that we will be called upon for support or help…a true friend will stand tall and be willing to give at any time, at any place. In order to have good friendships, we must be willing to be good friends.

But you’re o.k. with that, because you know they love you no matter what!

  478. Tracy says:

As I get older, I have realized that it may take more effort to stay in touch with my closest girlfriends (as we currently live in separate areas), but once we are together, there isn’t the slightest effort involved! It may have been months since we have last seen each other, but for some strange reason, it feels like the week before! I love that! True friendship is natural and easy (smile).
I may only see my “bestest” buds a few times a year, but I know they are the real deal and it makes me so happy to know that they are only a phone call away to listen to whatever I may need to ramble on about!!

  479. Penny Johnson says:

Being there to celebrate the victories in one another’s lives as well as mourning the losses. Being there to pick up the pieces and help you put them back together again. Asking how you are…and really wanting to know. Not being afraid to tell you the truth when no one else will. Crying until there are no more tears and laughing until your sides hurt-sometimes in the same night.

  480. rikki says:

friendship is the most meaningful to me when you can depend on one another, and not be afraid to ask. ask for help, for babysitting, for a meal, for an errand. true friends aren’t afraid to ask, because even if the answer is no, no face is lost. we understand each other.

secondly, friendship must include laughter. it’s cliche, maybe, but friends understand each other’s humor and laugh at/with each other!

  481. gracie says:

A good friend never looks around the room for others when you’re talking.

  482. Dawn says:

A good friend is loyal, must have a sense of humor and totally GET who I am.
These friends are few and far between and should be cherished.

You are so generous to host this giveaway in celebration of friendship!
Congratulations in advance to the persons who win this one.

  483. Jenny says:

One of the most important qualities in a friendship (for me) is accountability. I think it encapsulates all other important qualities (love, loyalty, honesty, humility, etc.). When you are accountable to a good friend, you know that they will love you enough to let you know when you are messing up, or will celebrate with you during the rare times when you feel like you really are doing things right. Without accountability I don’t think true friendship can exist. I am thankful to have a couple of friends who I am accountable to and who are to me as well.

  484. Sarabeth says:

I love having a friend who just gets me because part of her soul matches mine. I would love to give this necklace to my friend who is that for me…

  485. wendy says:

A good friendship involves trust, and also an unwillingness to let the other one settle. I need a friend who will push me to be a better person, and who will also let me push her to become more than she is. There has to be growth.
Also, a sense of humour is a good thing :)

    Gorgeous necklace!!!

  489. Meegan says:

I value openness, honesty and ease. I love to feel comfortable around my friends (who are counted as family). Above all, because we are all so busy with life in general, I value being able to pick up from where we left off at any given time, whether that be from a phone call five minutes ago or a conversation started months before! As I’ve gotten older, quality far outweighs quantity for me.

  490. Angela says:

  496. Lea Ann says:

I look for friends who are honest, good listeners, and who inspire me to be a better person.

  497. Cathy B says:

Friendship is one of the most valuable gifts we will ever have. True friendship is far different than aquaintences or buddies. True friendship is willing to go the extra mile, to not only laugh together, but to be willing to cry together, pray together, believe together… encourage one another, being iron that sharpens iron- but in love, when necessary….True friendship speaks beyond audible words… it is a language of the heart!

  498. Catalina says:

I feel blessed to have many friends, but just a few that I can feel comfortable to share pretty much anything with. These friends have challenged me and loved on me. They are a treasure in my life!

  509. Leslie says:

Recently after 17 years of marriage my husband left me and I have to tell you that I am so grateful for the friendships i have. I have decided the true meaning of friendship is having people who will just sit quietly and hold you while you cry and listen even though there might not be any answers or resolution. They are also the people who laugh the loudest with you in times of joy! Thank goodness for friends!!!

  510. Andrea Case says:

Friendships develop over time and that is sometimes hard to come by when you’re a mom. I just moved from NJ to MA and while I still talk and email with friends. I miss their company. I miss the activities we shared. I would like to share one of these necklaces with one of those special friends who has tried hard to keep in touch.

  511. Becky says:

I have moved many times in my life. I am a MK(missionary kid). Friendship to me is a bond between people that time and distance cannot destroy. You can pick up with that person after a month or year or longer. Now that I am a mom, something I value most are my friends insights. Love, honesty and laughter over the things that can drive us crazy! Love all you jewelry! Thank you for your blog.

  517. Danielle says:

hmmm…how much space do i have to describe my best friend in the whole world? her name is angie and she’s my big sister. unlike many friends who come and go with the different seasons of life, my sister has been by my side through them all. she tells me the truth no matter what, and held me as i cried from my first heartbreak. we’ve laughed so hard we’ve peed our pants…yes…it’s true. we can be silly or serious together and it doesn’t matter how long we’re apart – we always pick up right where we left off. my sister is my inspiration; she is my encourager; my mission goer buddy; my best friend…i mean it. she is everything that defines a best friend…sisters.

We both have such a strong investment in your friendship, it’s surely built to stand the test of time! We have a frienship as strong as Steel!!!!!!!!!

  523. Kristin says:

For me there are so many characteristics of a best friend. I’ve had friends that come and go and only had one that stuck with me in spite of everything. Ultimately…
you know you have a friend when despite the distance between you and all the craziness of life when you do come together its like you were never apart. My best friend is someone I can completely depend on and know will help guide me through tough times. I can trust her with any difficulties I have and know that despite any actions I have taken, she will never judge me. A best friend is that person you can talk to and not have to think of what to say, everything comes straight from the heart. With that best friend you’re not worried about saying something wrong or making things awkward because you know no matter what happens they love you for all those imperfections. A friend is a person that doesn’t care what you wear or look like because instead of looking at your outside appearance they’re looking at the most beautiful thing about you, your heart. :]

My best friend is all of this and more. She’s the person I have always known will be a friend for life. The one who will still be there once our lives grow even crazier. She’s the person I would be devastated to be without. The person who has grown to no longer be a friend or even a best friend but instead a sister. I love you Cameryn, <3.

  524. Tracy says:

A friend to me is someone who will stick around you not necessarily physically, but most importantly mentally. someone who you can joke around with about anything. someone who knows what youre saying even when you dont even speak up. someone who will pick the right outfit for you even when youre not around. someone who will give you advice even if it hurts you, just because they want the best for you. someone who wouldnt judge your decisions, rather understand your reasons. someone who looks at you and immediately knows what youre thinking. someone who lets know you when your under baked goodies taste horrible! someone who without you speaking to, shows up to places dressed just like you. and as i write characteristics of what a true friend is i realize that theres not enough words to describe my friendship with my bestfriend. you will always know who you are :)
