i think blue heron should be called gray heron-or at least blue-gray heron.  i love these birds.  and this gray, weathered rock at the tide pools has so much texture and history.

and a soft, gray feather found at the beach.

sometimes gray is thought of as cold or dreary, but i’d like to stand behind gray and argue that it can be stable and warm and full of texture and light.  who will stand with me??

  1. Love the Grey, bummed that I haven’t had a chance to check my favorite blogs in the last few weeks, and missed the sale on the awesome new ornament! It’s beautiful, but I’ll be ordering many for my SIL’s!!! Have a great weekend!

  2. I’m with you! I have a gray living room (light gray top & bottom with a dark gray stripe through the middle), I don’t think I’ll ever change it… I’m so glad I came across your site and blog, you are so talented and inspiring! 🙂

  3. I love an occasional day like today…a perfect opportunity to curl up with an afghan, a loved one, a cup of tea and a good book…..but just occasionally. I coudlnt live in Seattle or anything 🙂

Thank you for that beautiful look at gray! Jealous of those boots BTW 🙂

  4. Fun pictures. I need to take a drive to the beach and get some unsummer-like pics. Even though it’s rainy and overcast and gray, the ocean is still pretty nice actually. KOHL’S – just bought a blouse for me and a shirt for Dan (although we went back and he liked my other choice better, so traded). It just opened here in Redondo Beach. Yay!!! Love those boots. I think I need to go back for another visit.

  5. Ok first off….LOVE the boots. I see a trip to Kohl’s in my future! I have tons of gray sweaters. I love to wear gray but,I usually get down on “gray days”. Thanks for giving me a new outlook on gray!! I do appreciate a cold, rainy day every once in a while WHEN I can stay in and cuddle up and make coffee and soup! 🙂

  6. Hello,
I’m visiting from Lynette’s Blog. Great pics, I just love looking at other people pics. It is viewing the world through the eyes of others:)

  7. I’m loving your comments! Trina, try emailing ‘a frond to knit with’ follow the link for some toastys. And Randi for my pics I antique and lighten them a bit in iPhoto (for macs) but thesepics were very gray to begin. xo

  8. Toasties are popular here in Norway as well. Had my mom knit a couple for me last winter, as well as to my daughter. 🙂
What do you do with your pictures, since they all have this somewhat “lack” of color. Like washed out in a 70’s look? Love it, looks great. Very curious. 🙂

  9. i love it….i love gray days. they entitle you to rest and relaxation. a book. lay down by the fire. peacefulness. it allows for peacefulness……and i like that.

  10. I live on the East coast, and we are having a wonderful grey & rainy day!!! I love when the skies and clouds are grey, it makes me want to curl up with a blanket and read or take a nap.
Loving those boots you posted! =)

Wishing everyone a wonderful and blessed day!
    Peace be with you.

  11. Looking at these pictures I will agree with you, they look so warm. Love the boots–and Kohl’s?!?!? You can get everything on sale at some point there–love me some Kohl’s!

  12. I will- I absolutely love grey. out here in the northeast, a grey sky in summer means a storm (and boy howdy do I LOVE a good summer storm) and in the fall it means cozy sweaters, cups of hot apple cider, blankets and curling up with a really good book.

I have been lobbying to paint our master bedroom a shade of grey. Sweetie remains unconvinced.

I have a request- maybe in honor of all of the grey we love so much this time of year, you could somehow maybe possibly turn that gorgeous leaf ornament into a necklace on a long chain? Maybe? Could you? Please?

  13. i will stand right there with you! i love gray especially gray walls and grey sweaters and coats. & now i love your gray boots and gloves. So fun!
