don’t white dishes seem so clean and simple?  i also think red dishes would be great.  of course red wouldn’t match my house, but they are so charming!  we registered for various colors of fiestaware dishes for our wedding almost ten years ago and we still use them everyday.  and i love ’em!  what kind of dishes do you use?  do you have your eye on anything fun??

I always have my eye on more of Lisa Leonard jewelry! I love the reference to the fiestaware dishes. I worked at an antique mall many moons ago and we sold a lot of those dishes. Fun colors!
Just wanted to stop by and say I love looking at your pictures and reading your blog. I’ve bought a couple of things from you already and hope to buy more in the near future.

Ha! We have white ones ’cause we couldn’t agree on a design. But I do like them. Really, I do.

I have white dishes and I do like them.
We also have what we call summer and winter dished too.
I decided that I wanted to no longer use “made in china” dishes and took my everyday johnson brother dishes out of the attic. I do love these dishes that I got 20 years ago.
    How did that happen…20 years!

We went last weekend and purchased new dishes. We just bought glass. Clear Glass and then to shake things up a little Colbalt Blue Glass.

The glass replaced the most hideous, heavy, should only be used at a truck stop stoneware. It was a great momment for us. Both my husband and I really disliked those things. LOL

i’m not much of a collector. but at the end of last year i decided i wanted to collect dishes. weird? we purchased fiesta dishes as well for our wedding! we have them in yellow and white. when we went to gulf shores, alabama, on vacation last year, i bought the greatest plates in multiple colors along with bowls to match. and then, at a consignment shop this year i bought dishes with a cute little country scene. dishes. i love them.

We had the most fabulous painted dishes but when I tested them for lead, they were loaded. Yikes!! So we switched to Corelle plain white (lead free). I love how the food looks on plain white dishes. I would love Fiesta (also lead free) at some point but didn’t think of that 14 years ago when I registered. Oh well, I smell birthday and anniversary gifts coming on.

For every day we have some great red dishes that were made in Germany. We eyed them for a year before we got them (due to cost). I had a small job watching a couple of kids every morning & that was how we bought them 😉 For my china I’ve collected different pieces of transferware–all different patterns & colors…I just love it!

We have some red and yellow dishes that are used all the time. I like my red set but the plates are huge! :) So I would love to get a new set. They match my kitchen very nicely, I have kind of a country kitchen theme going. One red accent wall and the rest is cream color ruffed up a bit to look like old boards……..
Then we have winter dishes w/snowman on them……

I’m so anal about dishes. They HAVE to be white…and they have to be thick and sturdy. I always look at the fun colored dishes (red in particular) but I have this thing that certain foods would looks weird against the red…so I stick to the basic, clean white. Pottery Barn has a great set of white dishes that I always covet…

Before we even got engaged I spotted a Lenox set I knew I would register for called Butterfly Meadow. It turned out we got engaged very shortly after and I was happily able to register for the Butterfly Meadow Collection, what I loved about these was they are beautiful but can be used every day. Now 6 years later my kitchen is still filled with these beautiful pieces giving our kitchen a boost of Spring every day of the year.

I love Corelle. It lasts longer than any other dishes around my child filled home!

  12. we registered for fiestaware too. i love the style. wish i had some different colors, but still like the ones we have. and we’ve NEVER broken one–despite many times when i was sure they would have broken. which means they are the perfect dishes for clumsy me!

Lisa, you are a talented photographer. You’ve inspired me to learn and play more with my camera.

And dishes? Had white for YEARS. Now scouring thrift stores for interesting, colorful dishes with character…

I hope to place an order soon – I love that dewdrop and my birthday is coming up…

We have China – Lenox plates that have sat in a box for years. WHY use them with kids??? We have a cute set of Christmas plates – 12 Days of Mickey. And our everyday plates are blue & white Mickey Mouse plates. Notice a theme? They’re breakable… but they’re cute! I need new ones, tired of Mickey plates. Just not wanting to spend the bucks!

i absolutely love white dishes, and have tons of them….in storage. like everything else. can’t wait to set up house again. i’ve always wanted a kitchen with open shelving so i can look at my stacks of white dishes and simple clear glassware, and to have easy access when preparing a meal and unloading the dishwasher. i also love love love my robins egg blue plates i found at target one day. a steal at $2 for a set of 8. i think i got 4 sets. i kind of like dishes.

  16. Karen says:

Haha, I had to comment on this because I’m getting married in September and we just registered for a ton of dishes…guess which kind? WHITE….FIESTAWARE. :) Not too many people go for the white in that brand (the whole idea is color!) but I love the look of all white dishes, and have a ton of Fiesta serving dishes in the brighter colors…so we’re going to try and go for white + ___ color depending on the occasion. (White + Red + Blue = Forth of July? White + Navy = Penn State weekend? Haha…)

  17. Jeri says:

Red fiestaware, of course!!!! Love it~~~~

For shame! I have a *few* sets of dishes. I have a set of twenty-four green glass plates that we use for every day. I also have a set of antique dishes, I appreciate them, but can’t remember the name of the set for my life, that I inherited from a dear family friend when I got married twenty-two years ago. (She has since passed away, so they really are a treasure!) My all time favorite dishes are our black and white marble enamel/granite wear for sixteen. They remind me of the kind of dishes you use when fishing or camping, and I love to use them indoors and out. I also have a lot of accessories to go along with this set which have defined my kitchen. I had a red set of dishes, which I especially liked to use at the holidays, but we just gutted and redid our kitchen, and my mother convinced me that they would look better at her farmhouse in Vermont so I sent them home with her after her visit to Georgia last month. Bon Appetite Mommy!

Oh … we also have a full set of service for twelve of original Blue Willow. It has been in my husband’s family for four generations and will continue to be passed down as a family heirloom. We don’t use these dishes, but display them instead.

As the soup nazi on Seinfeld would say, “NOT MORE DISHES FOR YOU!”

A mixture of pottery collected over the years at various art shows. I love pottery and I love the mix-match that it is not all the same.

our dinner dishes are by corelle – they area cream colored with pink and blue flowers – from my pink and blue decorating days! i would love to have new stoneware dishes – but will have to do with these pretty pink and blue ones.

  21. Wendy says:

We have Fiestaware dishes. The deep blue, yellow, green, orange and red. My mom bought all the sets before we got married. All of our accessories are mix of these colors as well. I must admit that I would love white dishes, but my mom would kill me as my husband and I have only been married 4 years. My biggest dilemma right now is figuring out what color to paint our kitchen. With the hodgepodge of colors…. I’m leaning towards taupe.

I have charcoal/cream dishes and I love them (didn’t ever think of white back when we got these!). I just went looking and realized our set has been discontinued! Bummer. Not that we’ve broken any yet (super sturdy). But we never got a whole set (we really wanted the rice bowls because the cereal bowls are huge). I guess I’m going to be mix n’ match from now on!

Always wanted glossy red dishes. Red doesn’t go with my (current) kitchen, but I continue to acquire red kitchen stuff (bowls, spoons, mixer…).

  23. Heidi @ ggip says:

I have white pfaltzgraff dishes with a slight swirl pattern. I like them but I do kindof wish for something more bright like fiestaware! I also have china that we used to use regularly, I’ll have to get back to doing that!!!

  24. Angie Ulseth says:

I have fiestaware – all colors. Love to mix and match on the table. No matter what we’re eating, it feels like a party. My father-in-law has “dibs” on the white set whenever he’s here – he doesn’t like eating from a colored plate.

  25. Leanne says:

i have olive colored dishes… but my goal this summer is to thrift/garage sale myself a completely new, beautifully mismatched table for 8! we’ll see how it goes…

  26. Denissa says:

We registered for Fiestaware too, they’re wonderful we’ve had them for almost 12yrs! They are so timeless and durable. I would love to add some fun colors too, we have white & cobalt. I LOVE the turquoise ones but don’t think those would look too great with ours :)

Collecting Mikasa Italian Countryside… ivory tone. Love them and they are so much more versatile than the blue and white I used to use.

hi lisa- i love my latte bowls from anthropologie. when my friends come over they are great for putting candy in or chips and dip! mine our aqua blue, light grey and white.

I am lucky to have a Williams-Sonoma outlet store near my home. Last summer I purchased 12 taupe-colored dinner plates, that have beading and scallops on the inside of the rim. In addition to the dinner plates I purchased 12 salad/dessert plates.
To coordinate with the taupe color, I got chocolate brown bowls at Target (love the color of chocolate!) Both are simple for everyday use, and “fancy” enough for company. I love the simplicity of the two tones.

  31. Sarah Root says:

We have red Fiesta dishes and we (well I can’t speak for my husband :) ) LOVE them!!

  32. Sarah says:

We have the white Apilco porcelain dishware from Williams Sonoma for everyday use. It is incredibly durable and works with anything. For special occasions, we use my parents’ wedding china, which my father gave to me after my mother died. It is Wedgewood lavender-on-cream, and reminds me of my mother whenever I use it.

  33. When we married 35 years ago, we registered for Denby stoneware in a pattern called Potpourri White, which is in fact cream with mottled brown accents. It has been packed away since our last move almost 15 years ago. If/when we remodel our kitchen, I hope to have cabinet space to allow me to unpack it and use it again.

About 20 years ago I decided I wanted white dishes and settled on a Pfaltzgraff pattern called Gazebo, which has sort of a country French flavor. The dinner plates and cups and saucers and serving pieces are all still in great shape, but the salad plates and bowls succumbed to the ravages of the microwave.

After we purchased this 40s house, I started collecting new Fiestaware in four shades, cobalt, turquoise, light blue and light green. I also began collecting vintage platters and pitchers in shades of turquoise and light blue from various California potteries. And we mix it all with very contemporary stainless flatware and hand-blown Mexican cobalt-rimmed glassware. It suits my colorful eclectic house…and me…very well.
