hello tuesday. hello friends. {updated}

dumdums*

every single day, when i pick matthias up from school, he asks ‘did you get me a treat?’.  and almost always the answer is no, but every once in a while i bring something special.  and here’s a little treat for my sweet friends today-a dumdum just for you.  any flavor you’d like.  and their calorie free, because, um, it’s a photo.  can’t you imagine how yummy, though?

and today is a great day to shopping over at the pleated poppy.  i love her petal pushers.  so dang cute!  and matthias has a crayon roll that has saved us numerous church services/restaurants/waiting rooms.  she’s having an awesome sale, so enter code ‘blissdom’ for 15% anything!

and please, think and pray for david today.  we are visiting a GI doctor down south.  he has been having a lot of GI pain for last month or so and we are hopeful that we can find some answers.  when he’s not hurting he’s so happy, but after eating, reflux, throwing up, and difficult bedtimes have become almost the norm around here.  thank you for thinking of him today–i’ll keep you updated.

*** UPDATE***

Thank you, thank you for your prayers.

I can’t tell you how amazing it is to have friends far and wide that care about us.  The visit couldn’t have gone more smoothly.  We got straight in to see the doctor and right away he sent David over for x-rays.  The x-rays showed at least two partial obstructions in the large intestine.

The reason is because David isn’t able to completely clear his large intestine (get all the poop out) and so it builds up.  Even though he is already on a stool softener, we are ramping it up about 10x to get his bowels completely clear.  I just gave him the medicine–he has no idea what’s about to hit him!  Needless to say, we are staying home for a couple days.  Hopefully he will be MUCH more comfortable after we get through this.

Sending you all big big hugs!!

  1. Jim & I had these issues with our oldest. A (baby food sized) jar of Apple/Prune juice each day really helped our son. It became routine in his life for many years. Not certain how he handles these issues now, as an adult, and think I’ll forego asking. Good luck with your little fellow. The doctors always told us “lots of fluids”.

  2. Hi Lisa
I am a Mom of a special needs little boy who has alot of gastro problems. Have you tried Miralax??? That is what our Gastro Drs. at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas recommended. It is natural and not “habit forming!!!” Love your blog!!!

  3. Hi Lisa,

So glad you found out the problem. Boy Lisa that poop can cause lots of problems for kids. He will feel SO MUCH BETTER. Your right….just stick close to home. The clean out will do him good.

  4. I have been busy working on my own website and I have not stopped by your blog in a week or so. I usually check every day : ) I saw this post today and I wanted to share with you how we are also having some gi issues with our little one who is 9 months. He has had REALLY bad constipation since we started solids and prior I always felt there was some sort of discomfort in his tummy. We just ran some blood work and have our appt. with a gi in Feb. I hope ours goes as smoothly as yours and it is only a bad case of constipation. Thanks for sharing. It always feels good to not feel so alone in this process. I am sure you know this well. How inspirational you are.

  5. We live in the town where they make Dum-Dums (Bryan, OH). Every bank, store, hair salon, etc. in town has a bowl of them on the counter, and my four kids love them! They come home with sacks of them from the Fourth of July parade. The factory is right in town, so you can smell them being made on warm summer nights. It’s fun to guess which flavor they’re making!

  6. So glad to hear there is a simple solution! Good luck with the resolution, some days I think my life literally revolves around poop between my three children and two large dogs. C’est la vie, non? I’m always wearing one of the beautiful necklaces you’ve made for me and that helps, a lot. Have a great day!

  7. This reminds me of the “medicene” you have to drink before a colonoscopy.
Anyway, you are in my thoughts and prayers. When you are a mom of a special needs child,
you are automatically going to heaven. Be strong Lisa.

  8. Oh, I am glad to hear that it all went well today. Hope your little sweet guy is feeling a lot better soon. My own little guy loves to get Dum Dums at his hair salon — he always picks the “Mystery” flavor!

  9. I don’t know if it will help him with his condition, but I swear by Metamucil fiber bars. I love them because they are yummy and can be thrown in my purse and eaten at a convenient moment. I love how I’m not constipated anymore too!

  10. As a child growing up the doctor we went to would have his nurse give you shot for everything…and at the end she would give you a dum dum. I hate shots, but I do like dum dums. Wishing you the best.

  11. Glad that you got David’s pain figured out…..now I pray that everything goes good the next few days and that he starts feeling back to “normal!” With all of your beautiful pieces of jewlrey and wonderful pictures/experiences I’m sure that you have lots to do at home while David gets better! Take care!!!

  14. How nice to be able to knock one of your resolutions off of the list!! How’s the backseat I wonder? 🙂 I would love to always have a clean car…

Hope David is feeling much better really soon!! God bless.

  15. Good luck with the meds. I have an eight year old who has reflux problems, so I know it can be so uncomfortable! I’m glad things went well today. Sheri

  16. Oh bless David! I am glad the Doctors appointment went well & I pray the medicine will work! Prayers for you, Steve & Matthias, as you all cope with this…

  18. Your son is in my prayers. I have looked at a lot of your blog and it is so beautiful and inpsirational. you are a wonderful and talented mother. I love your photographs…you definitely are talented there! Good luck with the GI doctor and take care. Terri

  19. Hello! I just found your blog via rockstar diaries and I am really glad I did.
You have a beautiful family and a very beautiful blog and shop. I don’t mean to be naive but what is GI?
Prayers for your beautiful little boy and for the rest of your family <3

  20. Thinking and praying for David today! Travel safe!

Also, on another less personal note, I received one of your necklaces from my sister-in-law for Christmas and it is just BEAUTIFUL!!!! I plan to post about it on my blog when I have a chance. JUst wanted to let you know that you are incredibly talented and I will be purchasing many gifts form you in the future 🙂

  21. Prayers for David sent your way for sure!

I just ordered two crayon rolls — one for each of my 2. These will be perfect for church. My kids are old enough to be out of the nursery (6 and 9) but not old enough to be quiet through the entire Sunday service! Thanks for the coupon code!

  22. Hello, just checked out your store from Rockstar Diaries. How lovely all your creations are! Your blog is equally lovely and inspiring. Good luck with your sweet little boy.

  23. Thinking good thoughts for David and your whole family today, and hoping that you will be able to find some answers to help him feel better.

  24. Oh man, poor little guy! My daughter has a sensitivity to all MSG related types of products, and corn products as well. But before we knew that, and after a year of acid reflux and screaming as a baby, and then colon issues off and on, as a preschooler, and near constant tummy aches, my heart goes out to you. There are times I just threw up my hands and went, “What next?” (But that was me. I’m sure you handle it way better, and your issues are much more intense.)

I’ll be thinking of you all and hope the doctors have some good answers and help for your sweet boy.

    Blessings,
    Sasha

  25. You all are in our prayers …bless you all! And while we are at it…let’s both have a rootbeer dumdum together…that will make us feel better:)

  26. Best of luck to you and David today, hoping that you get some answers or can be lead in the right direction today. It is so very hard when your children don’t feel well…thinking of you all today!

  27. I will pray for him. Just a thought for you – I have had all those same issues for years, and it just gradually kept getting worse. They checked for everything, then said I must have IBS. I went completely off all wheat and gluten a few months ago. I feel SOOO much better. I will never go back to eating wheat and gluten again! A surprising number of people are intolerant to gluten. It’s not easy to eat that way, but it is do-able. If you don’t get answers from your dr and would like some info, do a google search on celiac disease (wheat allergy). I’d be happy to tell you about some foods that are good to replace wheat products. Will pray for y’all.

  28. Thinking of David today, and wishing you all the best of luck.
I just want to let you know, your beautiful designs are enjoyed now by nearly every member of my family. I got my mom a necklace last mother’s day. She got my kids a necklace and leather cuff for Christmas, and I got my in-laws a necklace and key chain recently. I hope someone gets me something soon. My birthday and anniversary are coming up. If not I may have to just get one for myself.

  29. lisa…
praying for your david. it is so hard to be a parent sometimes…especially when they hurt and you know things aren’t right. it’s hard not to be able to fix it all….but we can try! praying for you and thinking about you as you go on about your day, and hoping for some answers…. ! keep us updated!
