happiness in can…

decorating By June 3, 2010 22 Comments

we have an antique cupboard and the finish was so damaged.

steve really wanted to get rid of it, but i saw potential.

and since it wasn’t a treasured heirloom, i bought a pint of aqua paint.

{but even if it was a treasure heirloom, something had to be done!!}

i went ahead and painted over the hardware

since lindsey said it was okay.

then i sanded the hardware a bit to let the metal show through.

and i sanded the corners of all the edges and doors.

and i already linked the inspiring buffet over at

hooked on houses because her painted buffet makes me so happy!

i mentioned last week, we are moving into a new home mid-june.

i am trying to purge and freshen and reuse stuff we already have.

and i found the most amazing buffet on craigslist.

i can’t wait to share it with you!

and i’ve been frequenting my favorite decorating blogs…

haircuts and inspiring decor.

blog friends, decorating By May 6, 2010 17 Comments

have i complained about haircuts before?

for me, it’s a chore right up there with laundry.

i love getting my own haircut, it’s taking the boys that is so tiring.

probably because david screams the whole time.

but the good part is the salon is soooo cute.

it’s called bluebird salon and there are so many creative touches.

i think the owner is part genius.

and speaking of genius, do you know of my real life friend cathe?

she is amazing. check out her post on a kitsch makeover. i’m smitten.

i love this painted buffet.

love love love it.

i dream about it at night.

if it shows up missing, it’s because i stole it.

check out THIS painted buffet. i die. love it.

and one more painted dresser in an entryway. lindsey is so creative.

little birdie touches, books

and some darling wallpaper.

check out melissa’s post on wallpaper. so inspiring!!

and some amazing wooden floors.

oh i love wood floors.

what’s your decorating style?

what’s inspiring you today??

chalkboard door

decorating, DIY By March 26, 2010 No Comments

our interior garage door was olive green

and has a cat door

(and we don’t have a cat)

so it wasn’t too big of a risk to paint it with chalkboard paint.

now we have the perfect canvas for…

i got inspired by joy’s post here.

isn’t she amazing?

look at once wed did with a chalkboard.

and here are some other creative chalkboard ideas.

and here’s an article on using chalkboard paint for a casual every day look.

so fun, right?

more chalkboard love coming soon!

hippity hoppity.

did you know easter is april 4th this year?

insane! i don’t want it to sneak up on me.

(the way march did, hello march!)

so i’ve already been helping the easter bunny gather some items for baskets

(new crayons, bubbles, candy)

and i ordered these easter shirts for the boys.

and while the boys were sick over the weekend we needed a quick project.

so i pulled out plastic eggs, white glue and tissue paper.

paper mache eggs. perfect!

the eggs had holes in the top

so we strung fishing line through some of the eggs

and i hung them from the chandelier with some pompoms ribbon.

hard to believe it’s already march and easter is right around the corner!

how do you celebrate easter?

a new way to frame pictures {you would love it!}

decorating, photography By January 25, 2010 49 Comments

i bought the most amazing vintage painting today at the thrift store.

i fell in love!

it came with the frame i’m holding in the first pic.

but i really prefer oil paintings unframed with an exposed, wrapped edge.

casual decorating would be a really good way to describe my home.

so we took the unneeded frame outside to give it new purpose!

chrissie and the girls helped fill the empty frame with a lot of beauty!

then matty hopped in.  such a goofball.

he’s so used to me with a camera–but he’s usually up for trying something new.

kinda fun, right?

i thought this would be so fun for a christmas picture or engagement photos…
