what i wore wednesday

wanna know the truth? i have some mixed feelings about what i wore wednesday. i have fun with clothes, but they certainly aren’t the most important thing to me. and i would never, ever want anyone to feel like they {or their wardrobe} don’t measure up. what i wore wednesday is meant to be fun and inspiring.  i have the most fun when i don’t worry about it and i keep it light. i love seeing what other people are wearing and how they mix and match their clothes and accessories. so, i’m linking up with lindsey over at the pleated poppy.

above, dress, sale at anthropolgie.  boots, also anthropologie. aqua cardigan, target. chunky necklace, vintage. molded heart bracelet, my shop.

how do you feel about what i wore wednesday?

  1. I LOVE your WIWW posts! I have gotten so many ideas and have many more go-to outfits inspired by you. My only problem is that I live in Florida and cardigans, scarves & sweaters are nixed for many more months. Sigh…

  2. Thank you for WIWW! It has inspired me to get creative with my own wardrobe, which had become comfortable but boring. Thanks to you and Carol Tuttle I am taking more care with how I present myself and having fun doing it! When I look nice, I feel nice, so it’s easy to treat others nicely and vice versa. Perhaps people who complain about WIWW are experiencing the opposite of that.

  3. I love WIWW! I don’t consider myself a very stylish chicky, but looking at your outfits inspires me to maybe add a cute necklace to my outfit or a funky belt to mix it up a bit. Your blog is awesome all the way through and WIWW is just another part of who you are as a Lisa Leonard. I love that because as a working mom, hobby lover, and want to look cute woman, we need some inspiration from different places on different things. So please do not stop WIWW!!!

  4. I love WWIW! It definitely sometimes makes me feel the need to go on a major shopping spree- but more often then not I just love seeing the amazing outfits people put together. I like seeing yours and thinking- wow I should try those colors together or I’m going to wear my boots with my dress!

  5. Hi!
I think WIWW – real people, wearing real clothes with real comments on prices, sizing, style etc.
I find it inspiring – lots of good ideas.
Keep it as a feature, please!!
We Aussie ladies like to keep an eye on what other’s are wearing…… just may have snaffled myself a pair of Anthro boots, or two…..
    Brilliant blog..

  6. please don’t stop–i always look forward to wednesdays for your post. i’ve been disappointed lately, though, because you only post one outfit. please take pictures of more outfits–you inspire me!

  7. You always look so cute! I love the boots, I have been looking for some but have not had any luck yet 🙂 Seeing how you put things together helps me when I go shopping. To not buy just random things 🙂

  8. I love WIWW too! Everything in life can’t be all serious – and this is a fun part of your blog I look forward to. 🙂 Plus, I get great fashion ideas from you! Keep it up.

  9. Wow…your WIWW posts seem to be very popular and I can see why. Your outfit is adorable…I love the boots. I’ll have to say that in the Fall and Winter those are my favorite go-to shoe! I’m glad that I stumbles upon your blog…off to go check out your shop!

  10. I think what i wore wednesday is okay.

It’s definitely not my favorite part of your blog, and maybe not even top five. I LOVE hello mondays. I LOVE the inspiration days. I LOVE any and every story about the boys. I LOVE your “how-to” craft posts.

What I wore wednesday, like i said, is okay. But it’s for sure not my favorite post of the week.

  11. I love WIWW! Someday when I actually get regular blog posts going I plan to join in, but in the meantime, it’s so fun to see the different styles, and especially to know where people got certain things. I recently switched career gears from practicing law to owning a children’s store, so I actually get to try out some cute new clothing styles now (not just boring suits!), and your WIWW posts (and others’ too) are great inspiration. I don’t see it as materialistic or competitive or anything like that. Thanks for sharing with us 🙂

  12. I really like it for the most part. It kinda inspires me to put different pieces together and gives me ideas of things that really do look nice on a person even though I might see it hanging in a store and not like the style that much. I think it can get out of hand, though. Some people who crave attention and like to show off and have an “all me” attitude come across as being showy and materialistic and “what I have is probably better that what you have” attitude in their posts. But from what I see through Lisa’s blog I know she’s not like that at all and I’m fine with her WIWW blogs. I’m inspired to try to get a few good quality pieces to mix and match instead of having the tons of cheaper clothes that I currently have with nothing to match them or the quality quickly fades.

  13. Hi Lisa – I love your WIWW. Don’t stop! I look forward to Wednesdays for a little creative clothing kick from you and Lindsay, too.

  14. I love WIWW!! I love to see how you mix and match your pieces. As a total tee shirt and jeans girl, you have inspired me to start wearing little sundresses this summer and I love them! Keep it up 🙂

  15. I wouldn’t miss WIWW if it went away, but at the same time, it’s certainly not a bad thing! It’s lighthearted, playful, and silly- right? 🙂 It never makes me feel bad about my own style, or lack thereof 🙂 It is what it is, and I love your blog and reading about your life and that of your family’s. Thank you for sharing, whether about David’s birthday, a trip, recent shopping, new products, just pictures, or…. WIWW!!

  16. I love WIWW! It is all for fun, and it has given me some great ideas. The blogs I go back to the most are the ones who thrift, and repurpose clothes…their creativity with limited budget inspires me! I know it is not the most important thing, not even close. But it is fun to get lost in the girlish world of fashion and style once a week…a little escape from the kiddos and all their needs. I havent linked up yet, because I have a newborn and have spit up on me all the time..ha haaaa!

  17. I don’t do WIWW, but I actually was just thinking about the whole concept today because I follow the PP. I would take the point of WIWW as encouraging me to put myself together a bit in the morning, for my hubby, for me, and as a good habit. My fear for myself is that I would only post on the days where I thought I looked “good”, and it would start to get sort of vain, instead of being an accountability tool for me. I don’t have any problem posting that my clothes are not brand name, but if I committed to WIWW, I would have to post the days where I didn’t look cute, or I stayed in my yoga pants all day, or whatever. And no one wants to see that! And I don’t want to post it! But I do love looking at others’ posts for fashion ideas. 🙂

  18. I always look forward to seeing what you post on WIWW!! I think it’s so fun and inspiring, and your clothes are so cute 🙂 Please don’t stop!

  19. I love it and I particularly love your style.
Your pics of wiww are my favourites!!
Love that aqua cardigan.Wish my Target had the same one.

  20. I found your site a couple of years ago, and then my hubs ordered me one of your necklaces for Mother’s Day – a necklace I absolutely adore by the way. Anyway, this was before I really knew much about blogs. Then when I figured out that you had a blog as well as all of your great jewelry I was really hooked.
Love what you wear. I love the fun, bohemian, casual look and you pull it together so well.
    xo

  21. love it! best post of the week….i don’t think it is in anyway shallow…i just love seeing what other people put together to wear and am always inspired by what i see…helps me shop my own closet…shallow? i think not….enjoyable? yes!

  22. I too <3 WIWW. I don't see you as being materialistic in the slightest! I do see you as being a creative inspiration for me–in fashion, in your house, in your shop, and in your life. I think that creativity is part of the essence of femininity. We were meant to be creative. But it's easy to get stuck in a rut–at least for me. Your blog is one I turn to for bursts of inspiration–that lead me to create beauty for family and friends, and to finally feel beautiful in outfits inspired by your ensembles every Wednesday. Mine often look nothing like yours–but yours are the fuel for me to get creative with clothes and feel good about being me!

  23. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog, as a matter of fact it’s my favorite blog. I especially enjoy hearing about your wonderful family. Its so fun to see your great finds and all the beautiful places you visit when you’re out and about.

I must admit, when I first discovered your blog I wasn’t quite sure what to make of WWIW, it was the first I had ever heard of it. After a couple of weeks I was hooked. I look foward to it….it’s just fun! As a matter of fact, it has given me a few ideas, so thanks for that! I’ve never really been interested in fashion, as a matter of fact I HATE shopping for clothes. (I know right now some are reading this thinking she’s crazy, of course us girls like to shop) When I do shop for clothes, I would so rather do it online and Old Navy just happens to also be one of my go to favorites. So don’t feel bad at all about WWIW…it really is fun! :o)

With all that being said I’m heading over to your store a little later tonight for that lovely molded heart necklace I’ve been drooling over for months. My birthday just happens to be Friday and the family gives cash since they say I’m the pickiest person ever….I agree…just a little!

Thanks again for sharing a little of your life with us and keep your wonderful designs coming, they’re awesome. Though we’ll probably never meet in person, I’m so very happy to have met you here!

  24. I don’t personally link up to WIWW but I enjoy seeing what people come up with. You and I have a similar style so I find your posts to be especially interesting.

  25. I love to check out others’ WIWW but I am over doing the posts for myself. It was too much pressure! I love the ideas & shopping in my closet but hated the pressure. I’m glad that you & many others continue to post so I can check out all of your sassy-ness. Thank you!!!

  26. Love, love, love wiww! It gives me inspiration to put my clothes together in new ways! I agree with Amy — Don’t stop!!

  27. I love wiww! I always make it a point to stop by and see, and then I always get excited when I see something you wore, that I liked, in target! Don’t stop. It motivates me to stop wearing sweatpants.

  28. I look forward to it! My husband says you have inspired a whole new spin on my wardrobe, and it makes me stand out around these parts, so thank you!
I want to find a way to incorporate this into my blog, too.
I love that you have certain days that you post about certain things. Like a friend of mine says, though, “It works until it doesn’t feel like it does {to you} anymore.” But I give this two thumbs up always!

  29. I love seeing what you and others put together! It inspires me to be more creative with what I already own. The depth of your heart and faith is abundantly clear in your life story and your vibrant spirit also shines through in your style. God created us to be unique beings and it’s fun to see how each person expresses his/her unique style!

By the way, I waited many years to have my son and recently my mom got me a beautiful family necklace with his birthstone and initial from your shop. I wear it constantly.

  30. I love WIWW. I get great ideas for mixing and matching from it. I also think you do a great job mixing pieces from Target, Anthro, vintage, etc. Anyone who thinks otherwise should just click away from it. Geez.

  31. For you to say that shows your heart which is good! Keep on being that way. Personally, it makes me more creative with my dressing. I think people have to try not see it as I’m not measuring but rejoice in the positive side which is creativity. It’s not like you’re showing a price tag or something…I always like your posts. Have a wonderful day! 🙂

  32. I look forward to WIWW. Besides the fact that your style rocks, it inspires mixing high and low end finds and it’s just plain fun!
I like that your boys will have a weekly documentation of what their mom looked like way back when. So often we are the ones taking the pictures but WIWW means you have to be in front of the lens.

  33. I enjoy WIWW. As someone on a tiny budget, I am inspired by the way you mix and match your clothing and accessories.

I confess, though, that I am terribly jealous of your hair! 😉 Mine is a straight as a pin, and it has zero style.

  34. I look forward to your WIWW, because of the very realistic budget that you have, and how cute you make Target/Old Navy/and the occasional splurge pieces all come together. I find myself inspired when shopping for myself. I used to love magazines that showed the elements of cute outfits, like “In Style” does…but it’s depressing when they always feature $60 tank tops and $80 bangle bracelets = not happening for this stay-at-home mom!

Plus, if nothing else, I love to see your hair…mine is very similar and I’m growing it out, so I have something to aspire to! 🙂

  35. totally agree that we are NOT what we wear but, still I love, love, love seeing what you do put together on WIWW. 🙂 You have a style that so many people want to emulate because you are so stinkin’ adorable!!!!!

    p.s. I want those BOOTS!

  36. I have a daily style blog but I am also a Mama to two young boys so I guess I dabble in a bit of Mommy blogging, too. With that said, I am always curious what other Moms wear to take care of their kids. We all can get in ruts and wear the same stuff every day because it works. Having daily/weekly inspiration from REAL people is always wonderful.
You do a fantastic job at mixing gorgeous Anthro pieces with Old Navy & Target which is really realistic!

  37. I think WIWW helps people. I have to admit I thought it was indulgent when I first saw it but I quickly saw that it comes from a good place. Keep it up I know people enjoy it!

  38. I love What I Wore Wednesday! If it weren’t for the weekly post I’d probably forget it was even Wednesday. 😉

    Thanks for the inspiration, Lisa.

  39. I really like what you said about WIWW. I really like seeing what everyone is wearing, it’s given me great ideas on how to mix and match my (limited) wardrobe- BUT there is so much more to life than clothes and sometimes I wonder about the motives behind these fashion posts (on other blogs. I’ve noticed how you’ve shorted your WIWW posts to one outfit a week)

From what I’ve learn of you, Lisa, from your blog, you sound like a wonderful person and I love getting glimpses into your life. Your blog is more of my favorites! Blessings to you my dear! 🙂

  40. Sweet, Lisa! I love your WIWW posts but if YOU don’t love doing them, that’s something different!

We can never write, say, or photograph something EVERYONE will love when we share our creativity in ANY format (it’s something I certainly struggle with since I want to make everyone happy!)

Just know that we are all responsible for our own emotions. If we struggle with envy, we can cancel our catalogs. If we struggle with coveting what others have, we can pray about it…. (and so on)

You’re a great person with a beautiful heart! Your blog is for you to share what you love and you have the freedom to change it at any time! 🙂

  41. i appreciate your words lisa.

i like seeing the outfits you put together. you inspire me to be creative with what i have.

you look pretty in this…as always.

  42. I enjoy your Wednesday posts! I know clothes aren’t everything, but when kept in perspective it’s fun to play around with fashion.

  43. I love WIWW. I actually might not get to your blog every weekday, but I try not to miss a WIWW. I love your laid back style, looks chic, mom-on-the-go, yet still practical & easy to re-create. I have an affinity for cardis too. 🙂 I don’t get to Lindsey’s blog often, although after reading some of the blogs there it really encouraged me to start re-visiting thrift/2nd had (which I used to do & then stopped, why?!) & I am loving it! Finding such good stuff.

  44. You have such a beautiful soul. I love to see your spin on WIWW. You have such inner beauty that no matter what you wore you’d look absolutely lovely.

I hope you keep sharing your fun funky inspired style with us.

  45. Lisa, I really appreciate the welcoming feel of your blog…and now I really appreciate your welcoming take on WIWW. Thanks for your sweet, honest words.

  46. NO! You can’t stop WIWW! I look forward to this every single week. You have inspired me to go ahead and buy clothes from Target, and how to make it look amazing. I love your style, it is the style that was deep within me, but got squelched by the fashion mags and mall windows. I love that you can be you in your clothes and that you are comfortable enough to wear dresses over jeans! I love it, you are not showing off, you’re an inspiration!
    Thank you…

  47. I love your Wednesday posts with your outfits!! It’s always fun to see what other people put together. I learned how to tie my scarf from you. The pretzel one. I also tried on some shoes at Old Navy because of you that I otherwise probably would have passed by but they looked so cute with your outfit! I love your blog no matter what you put on it, so keep it up!

  48. I have been doing WIWW on my blog, inspired by you, then Lindsey! I like getting out of the comfy mom clothes I usually wear and having pictures of me in something I put a little effort into. I love your WIWW posts. I don’t feel like you are being too vain or pretentious or anything! Keep doing it, okay???

  49. I love seeing what you wear! You inspire me to put different colors, patterns and textures together than I normally would. I’m so used to having everything match just so, and it’s so boring. I love the navy with the aqua and yet I never would have put that together. I think the necklace makes the outfit! And, I love the boots! So fun and stylish!

  50. Its official. I need some cowboyish style boots to wear with my dresses. I’m just to floored by the lovely juxtaposition every single time you do an outfit like this.

So pretty Lisa, as always <3

  51. I have to tell you, since you asked, I LOVE your blog, I LOVE your jewelry and I virtually LOVE you and your family! 🙂 But “What I Wore Wednesday”…eh. Not so much. Don’t get me wrong, you always look great and your clothes are cute and hip. I would just rather see your fun clothes as an after thought in other posts about your family, thrifting, etc.

  52. I share your mixed feelings for sure. Sometimes clicking through to other posts stirs up feelings of discontenment, like I wish I had XYZ or could wear an outfit like Susie Q etc.–so I really have to fight those feelings and not let them in. WIWW is lots of fun, it should be light hearted and also inspiring–and it is.

Most of my things come from Target, Old Navy, etc. so it’s always encouraging to see other ladies share their thrifty finds.

Always LOVE your outfits–and your lovely smile!

  53. Hi Lisa
I look forward to WIWW and I am trying to figure out how I can incoporate something like it in my blog. Lots of fun.
Maybe you are feeling like its getting routine, but maybe you could have “guests”. It was so funny when your husband was featured. Maybe you could incorporate WIWW into the activities you did on that day. You could feature accessories or even shoes. But then you could always feature it once a month or every third wednesday LOL:). Whatever you decide, its all good. We love you anyway.

    1. I love that idea too Ramona! That would be fun. Especially, if she would be willing to dress some of her friends. 😉 I agree with the comments above as well, you do a great job encouraging me to try new things. Love your outfit & love you!

  54. I love WWIW!! I just love seeing the cute outfits you put together. I’m awfully inspired by your style. I’ve even purchased a rossette necklace because I’ve seen you rock it with so many looks. Please keep the cute outfit posts up. I love them!!

  55. I appreciate what you said, it isn’t the most important thing to me either, but I have to tell you, I get so inspired by what you wear! I think that the reason I like WIWW (especially on your blog) is that you just seem so happy and relaxed, and your style is right up my alley, not all stuffy, and uptight. But beautiful and classic. So thanks for doing it, because I love your style, and all the inspiration you give through the whole week!

  56. I love to see it too. And I love it that a lot of your things come from Target and Old Navy–proof that you don’t have to break the bank to look like a million! Please keep sharing!

  57. I think it’s fun and I have never had the feeling that I needed to “measure up”. Keep it up! It’s a nice break in the middle of the week to see how you’ve outfitted yourself. 🙂

  58. Hi Lisa,

I read your blog and look forward to Wednesdays at you site. I adore the way you layer and combine your pieces. I am doing WIWW for the first time today. I’ve looked at WIWW for a while, and now I am going to use it to help me get creative and shop my own closet. Think of yourself as an inspiration! Helping others to create outfits that make them feel good about themselves. So, Thanks!!

  59. I have found myself being fine w/ WIWW when it’s one or two outfits. When it’s 5 or more I think the blogger is saying “look at me! Look at how cute I am! Look at all the cool stores I have access to!” Now I KNOW I am interjecting my foolish emotions here, but you asked so I’m telling. I see a few gals do WIWW and I’ve thought about doing it, but I’d get so far as one picture one day, and I wasn’t sure if it was “worthy”. So for now I post pictures of all the cute things around me.

  60. I love it – please don’t stop! Seeing how other people mix up their clothes and accessories is fun and inspiring. I don’t think it should make anyone feel bad about their wardrobe, especially since so many of your pieces are from places like Target. (As are mine!) If anything, it gives me ideas on how to wear pieces in my closet that I’d all but given up on!

  61. Really cute! I’m amazed that you can still wear boots & a cardigan when we’re melting over here in TX, okay, maybe a little jealous… LOL!

  62. Hi Lisa,

WIWW is my 2nd fav. part of your blog(my first being the sweet stories about your beautiful boys).
I just love your style. You put things together that I would never think of trying and you inspire me to be more creative with my wardrobe. I don’t think that you need to worry about other people’s wardrobe “not measuring up”. I have seen you wear the same things so many different ways. If anything, you are teaching people how to use a few key items in a versitile way.

    Love it!
    Jen

  63. I love WIWW… I don’t think anyone sees it as materialistic, or at least they shouldn’t. Let’s face it — we all have to wear clothes every day! It’s a natural part of life! Personally I love seeing your combos and find inspiration in how you put things together — you’re a creative person and it comes through in your outfits. Please don’t stop! And this outfit is adorable and now I feel like I want to mix navy and aqua tomorrow! Otherwise I just would’ve paired the same ol same ol. So, thank you!

    1. I totally agree with Tara! Seeing what you wear on Wednesdays lets me look into my own closet and be more creative and daring with what I wear!! I Love WIWW!!
