holiday dressing

dress0*

i recently brought home this dress from melanie renee.  i love this dress.  i mean, i seriously fell in love with it.  i met melanie at a local show and was so impressed with her craft.  at $148 it’s just a bit more than i would usually pay, but, i’m pretty sure i can justify the cost (hehe).  it’s a versatile dress so i put together two outfits.  i’ll be wearing this beauty to more than one holiday gathering.

the first way…

this is exactly how i thought of the dress when i first saw it.  the perfect brown leather boots and layered with a sweater.  the scarf and silk flower dress it up a bit more.

this outfit is so comfortable.  it really feels like ‘me’.  love it.

i’ve been wearing these boots pretty much every day.  this outfit is casual and fun enough for lunch with girlfriends, but i’d also wear it to a casual holiday party.

*

okay, the second way.  i had to think outside of my box for this outfit, but i ended up loving it.

i added grey tights and t-strap mary janes.  over the top a black cardigan and deep red scarf.  i thought the red in the scarf made the whole outfit feel more ‘holiday’.  i think this version is a bit more dressed up.

this outfit is so comfortable, too.  and tights really flatter the dress.

which outfit do you like better? aqua with boots or red scarf with t-straps?

  1. What a fabulous dress! I love both outfits you put together – your style is impeccable. And you have fabulous hair btw. From one curly haired girl to another 🙂 Happy Holidays!

  2. Love, love the dress! love your give away wish it included the dress! lol Isn’t it wonderful when you fall in love with something you just have to have it even when you know it more than you usually would pay! I sure you will love it for a long time! It is wonderful!

  3. It is a great dress! Looks super fabulous on you! I especially love those t-straps. I must get a pair of those to brighten up my fall/winter wardrobe!

  4. You are darling in that dress. I love how you support other people and want to make them succeed. I love how you “shout out” to other stores, designers, etc. Way to go! You’ll continue to be blessed b/c of it.
    Love.

  5. Both are lovely, but I prefer the red scarf and dark cardigan. The darker colors seem to better complement your beauty.

  6. too cute !
love the dress and there’s probably even a few more ways you’ll find to wear to it….
you’re just too stinkin cute…nothing ever looks bad on you, I’m sure !

  7. It’s so flattering on you with the waist the way it is. I’m going to say aqua with boots b/c it’s casual yet cool and aqua is my new fav color (wearing it today actually *smile). If I saw you on the street I would most definitely turn to my husband and say, “did you see that girl? Where do people find cute stuff like that?!”

Have a fabulous day, Lisa. 🙂

  8. Have you seen the website where the woman is wearing one dress for an entire year??? Adorable! There’s so many things you could do with this dress. I love it both ways, very Anthropologie. You have to google the one dress girl and be amazed….

  9. Okay I love both, but I like the Aqua better. Love the boots, the scarves, and can I have your hair??? I have curly hair your length, why doesnt’ my hair look like yours??
anyway, you are just adorable in both outfits, great buy Lisa

  10. From what you share here, both versions are very ‘you’, Lisa! Love them both, love your creativity and everything you bring to this blog.

And you are all over my reader… Tara Whitney, Morgan Moore, whew! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  11. Oh to be able to find a dress that fits so nicely and flatteringly. Too many rolls that show. But it’s an inspiration. Maybe I can shed the pounds and buy some new outfits. You are too adorable, Lisa. Love your fashion sense and the way you can change an outfit from casual to dressy. Beautiful!

  12. I love both outfits! I wish I had your sense of style! I love the boots! Frye is my new obsession but I can’t get my husband to see through the price. 🙁

  13. Love them both! I’ve been wearing my boots a lot too. I am looking forward to wearing dresses again…I’ve been a nursing mama for over 2 1/2 years now. Dresses are not so nursing friendly and the nursing dresses are well, not so cute. You picked a winner there!

  14. I really love both of them.. that is an gorg dress and really am loving both style.. i think the aqua is a little more fall/thanksgiving and the red totally gives a punch for the Christmas season.. i do love the tights with those shoes.. fabulous! All around beautiful and most justifiable find! 🙂

  15. You are adorable!! Love both looks, I think do the aqua sweater and boots for a day time thing and the tights and t-straps with black sweater for an evening event!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  16. Awesome! absolutely adorable outfits you put together using just one dress! I do this all the time with my outfits. I really only have a couple of dresses that I wear so often thinking outside the box is required! Headbands, jewelry, cardigans, scarves etc always help to make a completely new outfit. Love it!!!!!

  17. I’m so inspired to see a real-life mommy wearing such darling, glamorous outfits! Thank you, Lisa! i love the tights and t-straps. You have such great style!

  18. you can totally justify the price, it looks great on you, soooo pretty! i love both looks but my favorite is probably the aqua because it’s just about my fave color–also love the scarf and the flower. and the boots, lovE!

  19. The tights and shoes with the aqua sweater buttoned at the waist and cinched tighter with a skinny belt would look good too. A super fitted, thin sweater UNDER the dress, and either tights or boots is another option. A shrug with heels and sheer hose would look really fancy (ohhh, lONG pearls with that one) You could wear this at least 5 different ways. Flip flops and a jean jacket…leggings, boots and a pretty poncho…just keeps getting better! It’s a great length, I think that’s what makes it so versatile.

  20. Lisa, you are so pickin’ cute!!! You’ve always been so stylish.
I really love the aqua/boots and the way the aqua compliments your skin and dress color. But those tights/shoes are great. They remind me of some shoes you had in college. Remember how you had to make up a sign out sheet for your closet because everyone wanted to borrow your clothes so much? Good times.
