a beautiful day

last weekend we went to avila beach for the afternoon.

it was the first day of spring break and the weather was so beautiful! about 85*!

{isn’t that aqua cottage so cute?!}

someone was having a celebration–we weren’t invited, but i loved the paper lanterns!

it was making me long for summer!

and more free time.

more time to play and feel the sun on my shoulders.

and lounge under an umbrella near the water. that sounds like heaven!

and ice cream. both steve and i choose cookie dough. david likes berry {non-diary} and matthias likes rainbow sherbert.

matthias and david would like to know–what’s your favorite kind of ice cream?

  1. I LOVE Chocolate! AND I love Avila Beach……my parents grew up in San Luis Obispo, but somehow we ended up in TX!! LOL

Great pictures and I love your blog!
    Keep up the amazing work.

  2. I must say my favorite ice cream is ICE CREAM!!!…except vanilla and mint
I just love the color scheme for your blog and your photos. I was also wondering too, how you get that vintage feel to your photos

  3. I absolutely love your photography, among all the other things you do. Great blog! And, I am very glad to be a new follower. And, of course, I was sent to you by LMM!

  4. so nice that you can spend an afternoon at the beach (ANY BEACH!). not the case here in ohio.

I like homemade brand peanut butter chip ice cream – my 8 yr old daughter chooses mint chocolate chip, and my 4 yr old daughter, chocolate – every time.

  5. we have a local grocery store that sells a light waffle cone ice cream. It has bits of chocolate coated waffle cone, a swirl of brown sugary sugar-cone-flavored yumminess, and light caramel-vanilla ice cream. I lose all control when this is in my freezer. Happy Easter, Matthias! (and the rest of your family, too!)

  6. Hi Matthias and David! 🙂
I LOVE chocolate malted krunch {thrifty’s ice cream} @ rite aid…..totally reminds me of being a kid! My 2 1/2 yr old loves plain chocolate. He’s simple, hehe! 🙂

  7. So jealous of your 85 degrees, Lisa! Here in New Hampshire, we woke up to SNOW this morning! Crazy!

My ultimate weakness is ice cream, and lately has come in the form of black raspberry chocolate chip yogurt from Giffords! Yum!

    🙂

  8. I go for the dairy free, too. My absolute favorite is Lime Raspberry sorbet, but I’m also a fan of mango sorbet. Last week I found a pink grapefruit sorbet with candied orange peel mixed in. Yum!

  9. Matty & Davin,
My new favorite, because of allergies and other intolerances, is the 5 ingredient vanilla bean.
    Misty

  10. Chunky Monkey by Ben and Jerry’s is my favorite. Unfortunately, I’m lactose intolerant so I can’t eat ice cream. I have to settle for black rasberry chocolate chip yogurt from Newport Creamery. It’s still very tasty and definitely hits the spot on a summer night. Yum!

  11. Visiting from Little Miss Momma…I LOVE ROCKY ROAD ICE CREAM!!!

Love all of your jewelry btw!!! can’t wait to order some goodies 🙂

  12. Ice cream is probably my most favorite dessert! So one flavor is hard to choose…but tell the boys that today I’ll go with Cookie N Cream! Yum!

My sis lives in Atascedero and every time we come to visit she says we have to go to Avila Beach, but we’ve yet to actually make it there. Now I’m inspired! Next time we’re going for sure. 🙂

  13. You take gorgeous photos! I just started following you about a week ago and already love your blog. I see so many other people do too – just saw the giveaway on LMM for your shop!! So excited!

  14. Please tell David and Matthias that Cole and Sienna love mint chocolate chip and Maya and Logan love bubblegum! Their mom loves coffee bean! Have a wonderful spring break and Easter! Many blessings!

  15. I love Avila Beach! My husband and I went there for the first time in February as an early anniversary getaway and we fell in love with the place. The beauty, the tranquility, the little shops, all of it. Wish we could move there.

  16. Hmmmmm, coffee, chocolate chip cookie dough, vanilla bean, I really try not to discriminate when it comes to ice cream! 😉

  17. I’m not sure if you have it over ther is in the US but my favourite is Hokey Pokey which is like a creamy vanilla ice-cream with chucks of honeycomb through it. My boys favourite is anything cold, sugary and wet. They love just about every ice-cream flavour 🙂

  18. Plain old chocolate is my favorite, then anything else that contains chocolate. 🙂 Beautiful photos. I’m longing for summer too.

  19. My favorite is mocha almond fudge. My hubby’s favorite is chocolate peanut butter. My boys’ favorite is cookies and cream. Yum! Happy Easter, Lisa! HE IS RISEN!

  20. Hi Lisa, great photos as usual!
Tell your little sweethearts my favorite flavors are pistachio & butter pecan. I really LOVE Gelato too. Raspberry, Lime, Pistachio, Bocio, Lemon <3, Yum to them all!

  21. I love Jamoca Almond Fudge – or anything with chocolate, coffee and nuts in it!
Love Avila Beach too – haven’t been there in years – thanks for sharing your day with us. I have lots of fond memories of that wonderful little corner of the world!

  22. Um, unfortunately I don’t think there’s an ice cream flavor that I don’t like. Ice cream seems to be a staple in our house. But my go-to favorite is chocolate peanut butter. And now they serve it at Rita’s Italian Ice…..delish 🙂 Have a wonderful Easter.

  23. Thumbs up for cookies and cream! And double thumbs up that I just got confirmation that my molded heart bracelet just shipped. No waiting for mothers day to wear this baby. It will be worn right out of the box after the mail comes. Happy Easter!

  24. Lisa…i LOVE your family pictures. Can you PLEASE tell me how you take them so close up?! Like the three in this collage? What camera do you have?? I’m desperate for some adorable family shots..we have so few 🙁

  25. Great photos, especially as where I am it’s raining and about 50 degrees!

Tell Matthias and David that I’ll eat just about any ice cream, but lately Baskin Robbins’ daiquiri flavor is a favorite. My husband likes rum raisin! And my kids like all of them.

  26. ben and jerry’s cherry garcia. and i just discovered pecan praline at baskin robbins! oh my! it WILL warm up here in the southern california desert – ad then we’ll complain about the heat!!
I hope that you and your family have a blessed Easter.

  27. oh my goodness, what a perfect day and what a darling family! great photos. beautiful memories. wish i could just go to a nice warm sandy beach for an afternoon 🙂 <3 EverRubyGirl.blogspot.com

  28. Dear David and Mathias,
I love the Chocolate Fudge from Baskin Robbins. Unfortunately there isn’t one where I live. Boo. At the grocery store I like to buy anything Vanilla Bean and put lots of the Magic Shell chocolate on top. Yumm.

Hope you boys and your mommy and daddy have a blessed Easter!

    Love,
    Renae
    Lincoln, Nebraska
(have your mom show you where that is, it’s the state capital)

  29. Such beautufl pix from my homestate that I miss and love so much (I’m a sad relocation wife stuck in Alabama) tell your boys that I love anything from 31 Flavors — especially Daquiri Ice and the waffle cone sundaes.

  30. Love the pictures–cold and gray here in No. California…hoping ofr some sunshine but not too much. It’ll be in the 100’s soon enough!! Tell David and Matthias that I love plain old vanilla (I know, how boring) with peppermint a close second.

hope you all have a beautiful and blessed Easter!

  31. love the pics of your day trip! our weather here is rainy and cold still, can’t wait for summer and trips to lake michigan. there is a wonderful ice cream place in south haven, michigan (beach town) that makes the best ice cream. we can’t go to the beach without a stop there. i get mocha almond fudge, my little ones always choose cookie dough or superman. 🙂

  32. I have to pick just one? 🙂 I’d say I’m on a chocolate/p.b. kick right now. But rainbow sherbet is definitely nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood. My son likes all kinds even though i mostly give him vanilla or rainbow sherbet.

  33. The way your husband is looking at you in that third shot of the family is so precious, it brings a tear to my eye. 🙂

Favorite ice cream- most definitely Butter Pecan from Graeters in Cincinnati! http://www.graeters.com/ Oprah loves it so much that she gets it shipped to her on dry ice. 🙂

    1. Black raspberry chip from Graeters is AWESOME, especially if you have a contest to see which one of you has the biggest chunk of chocolate in your bowl 🙂 If you are ever in the Cincy area you have to try it.

  34. I was just there a couple of days ago – your pics make me want to go back 🙂 And ice cream – please – I would not say no to any!!!!

  35. OH, so many types of icecream to choose from!! I would have to say… eeh… I’m having a really hard time deciding! Green Mint Chip, or chocolate fudge brownie… yeah, I’m gonna stick with those two.

  36. Such dreamy, lovely photos. I can almost hear the ocean! I’m with David, berry and cherry flavors are my favorite. Combined with chocolate and then you have a real winner!

  37. Mint chocolate chip, for sure! It’s my dad’s favorite, too. We’re the only ones in the family who like it, but I never get anything else. It makes me feel special.

    1. Same exact story here, Amanda! In fact, the only eulogy I chose to impart at my dad’s funeral was that my dad always told me life is too short to eat crappy ice cream! ha! I grimace that that is what I shared with everyone, but it was genuine! I love Breyer’s Mint Chocolate Chip above all others. It’s so airy.

  38. Chocolate with peanut butter, and my boyfriend loves mint chocolate chip. Since he’s from Vermont, whenever we see Ben & Jerry’s, we get it. 🙂

  39. Chocolate Malted Crunch from Thrify. Best EVER!! My little guy and I had an ice cream date on Wednesday! I long for Summer, too! Living in So Cal and close to the beach… It is all about Summer here! Hope you have a great Easter!!

  40. I’m not sure I ever met an ice cream I didn’t like 😀

I think my favorite kind is either banana with miniature peanut butter cups (otherwise known as “Monkey Business”), or Grape flavored, which is incredibly rare, I’ve only ever had it twice.

I have WONDERFUL news for you, Lisa! **giggling** You no longer have to long for summer, you have it!!! 😀 85 degrees is summer, really! I’m gearing up to go for a 10K run this afternoon, it’s beautiful and sunny, but with the windchill, it’s 23F. I’m not sure summer reaches 85 here more than a half a dozen times. Hmmm, if I start running now, how long would it take me to reach California? LOL

  41. Your pics really make me feel like I need a vacation right now! My fav ice cream is peanut butter spiral! My nana used to take me to this one place for it. Such fond memories!

  42. Matthias & David, I love coffee ice cream. Always have, always will! And what a lovely & glorious day at the beach. I’m jealous of 85 degrees and sunshine. Here in NH it is still so chilly and we may even get more snow. 🙁 I, too, am really yearning for summer.

      1. hahaha!we must be because other than my own mother, i know of NO ONE who loves those 2 as much as me….and now YOU!

  43. hmmm…ANY kind, really! I love it all. I scored a $5 Cuisinart ice cream maker last summer at a neighbor’s yard sale and we made all sorts of yummy homemade flavors for the rest of the summer.
Ive got a terrible migraine today. And its my birthday. Hubby & I were supposed to have a date out today since he’s got the day off but Im stranded on the couch. Ice cream sounds purty good right about now:) “Honey!…I think I need some ice cream!” 🙂
    Have a blessed Easter, Lisa!
    XO,
    sickie Sarah

  44. I am missing ice cream so much! My little guy is allergic so as long as I’m nursing I can’t eat it. I love salted caramel ice cream best.

  45. Lisa, your days are always filled with love! So sweet!

Tell your boys that I love chocolate peanut butter – but my six year old son like cotton candy. 😉
