Growing Grounds

san luis obispo, shops i love, what I'm wearing By September 2, 2016 2 Comments

It’s been a strange week of highs and lows. Nothing big, just trying to get back into the school routine and feeling exhausted. I’ve had lots of meetings this week. Matthias has started to have homework {yuck!}. Seems like by 8pm we’re all ready for bed. In between the busyness there have been many moments of laughter and downtime for cuddling. I don’t want to overlook those sweet moments. I have much to be grateful for!

Just down the street from our office is one of the best plant shops in town. It’s just off the main street, so it’s easy to miss it. Growing Grounds has beautiful plants, reasonably priced and it benefits Transitions Mental Health Association. So important.

With rushed mornings now that the boys are back in school, I’m basically wearing the same thing everyday–whatever is closest and easiest. I’m obsessed with this camisole from WhoWhatWear at Target. It’s perfect for layering. And then jeans and easy boots or sandals. The polka dot scarf was a last minute addition and pulls the outfit together. I am so glad handkerchief scarves are making a comeback. I used to wear them all the time in college. I think they’re so sweet.

my neighborhood, san luis obispo

We moved our shop onto Chorro Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. I’m standing our front in these pics. We are sandwiched between Eureka! Burger and Black Sheep Bar & Grill with an awesome Boba tea room called Sweetie Cup right across the street. It’s basically amazing. And there are so many adorable boutiques and delicious restaurants steps away. We are working on a plan to open the retail shop–it’s a big project in the midst of busy days. I’ll keep you updated as we progress!

on my street san luis obispo-02 I found this button up dress at Target and we both knew {the dress and I} that we would go home together. It’s a flowy versatile piece and I love it! Plus the price is unbelievable.

on my street san luis obispo-04 The slip dress is a thrift store find from years ago. I think I splurged and paid $10 for it. It’s definitely worth the investment.

on my street san luis obispo-05 And this sweet necklace holds so much meaning for me. I have a heart for each one of us in our little family of four. I am grateful.

on my street san luis obispo-06 These sandals are so comfortable. I got a second pair when they went on sale last year and tucked them away. They’re a warm weather favorite.

on my street san luis obispo-07 Have you seen these stackable ‘sweet love’ rings? Aren’t they sweet? Two for me and Steve and two for my boys.

Please excuse the sandals in February. We’re having a heat wave here in California. Today was 86*–insane. We’re soaking it up while praying for more rain!

big deal with being twin sisters {birthday celebration party}

celebrate the every day, san luis obispo, shops i love By August 19, 2015 10 Comments

Last weekend I got away with my twin sis, and my two younger sisters who are also twin for a sister weekend. All of our birthdays are in August and we’ve had this tradition since college.

How insane is that?!

We rented a luxury cabin {kind of like a tiny house} from Flying Flags resort in Buellton. It was adorable! We ate so much good food and talked and talked and laughed and cried and talk some more. I brought matching pajama bottoms for all of us because we’re nerdy like that! It was some much needed time away to rest and have fun. And of course I have lots of pics to share with you! At the end of the post I have links for our favorite spots in Buellton, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos.

loving vintage roadway signs

blog friends, decorating, shops i love By May 21, 2015 2 Comments

I couldn’t wait to share these with you! I’ve been looking for some fun vintage roadway signs and I haven’t been able to find them anywhere. And guess who created some ADORABLE signs with a perfect vintage feel? Yep, Barn Owl Primitives.

These remind me of long road trips on heading North on the 5 freeway to see cousins.

Picnic! Food! Scenic spot!

So fun.

I love the simple brown and white with sanded edges. So sweet! And perfect with some sunny flowers and a funky lamp. Lamp DIY here.

Do these evoke road trip memories for you?

Yay SuMmEr!! Let’s take a road trip and have some fun.

You can see all the vintage street signs here. And use code LLD25 for 25% off anything in the Barn Owl Shop. Awesome!

older posts, shops i love By May 6, 2015 4 Comments

A couple weeks I met up with my twin sis, Chrissie for breakfast in Long Beach. I had David with me–so he got to hang out with the girls. And he had so much fun {almost as much fun as we did!}. We ate at Bake-n-Broil then walked over to Salvage Life–an adorable boutique, for some inspiration. This shop is amazing! I took lots of pics to share with you. Check it out.

Isn’t it charming? You can shop Salvage Life online here or follow her on Instagram here.

Just looking at these pics makes me want more sister time! I can’t get enough.
Happy Wednesday, friends!

lots of photos to share from Lisa Leonard ! {left field, san luis obispo}

decorating, san luis obispo, shops i love By February 3, 2015 1 Comment

This brand new shop here in San Luis Obispo, Left Field, combines some of my favorite things–succulents, baskets, colorful rugs, rough stones, rusty metal, textured shells and lots of light. The result is magical. Today I’ve got lots of photos to share. I hope they inspire you!

Left Field is on Monterey, right across the street from Ruby Rose and just down from Splash Cafe.

Want to read an interview with the owner? Click here.

Browsing a couple amazing shops and clam chowder, hmmm. Sounds like the makings of a perfect afternoon, don’t you think?!
